    Now normally, Science and Reason can disprove almost all of the supernatural happenings in the world, For instance, the myth of the Vampire was unraveled once people understood the body's natural decomposition cycle. 9 times out of 10, Paranormal occurrences are quickly debunked, but there is always that one case that can't be explained by modern scientific conventions.


    But what about the old Myths, Legends, and Hauntings that have
    yet to be explained?


    Legends concerning The Jersey Devil, Sleepy Hollow, and the Bell Witch have existed in New England and the South for centuries, right up to the present day. Many hauntings and myths are attributed to ancient Native American burial mounds and tradition. Stories of haunted Civil War plantations and Battlefields continually pervade American culture.


    The well-documented Haunting of Anneliese Michelle (the Real life Emily Rose) remains unexplained to this day.


    Is there something truly supernatural at hand, or is it just another coincidence? Discuss why supernatural events continue to occur, despite us living in the Modern Age.


    *Feel free to mention any major supernatural occurrences I may have missed.

    Can we discuss non-major paranormal activity that may have happened to us personally, or is this topic primarily to discuss the events you mentioned?

     
    i'm interested in so-called "paranormal" events but i haven't ever witnessed anything that couldn't be explained, so naturally, i'm skeptical. it's difficult to judge the integrity of mysterious testimonies like the ones mentioned in the OP since they've been passed around for so long, but i think most of the time basic reasoning can explain an event if presented with thorough information. that's not to say that spirituality can't be the basis of some unexplained experiences, it's just something i generally doubt.

    also, i've read a little bit about anneliese michel, to me it sounds like a case of mental illness and starvation :I but anything you don't experience first-hand is difficult to reach a confident standpoint on.

    I would argue that the fact that those legends have lasted so long, while others have been debunked, would hint at something else is afoot here. The Bell Witch Haunting story has been a staple in local Tennessee lore for two hundred years. There should be an explanation.

    there are plenty of myths, debunked or otherwise, that that have been floating around for quite some time. i can't deny that a lot of them are really mysterious and interesting to explore, and regardless of legitimacy i think that's why these myths stay afloat- like fables and fairy tales and religious myths, they're simply entertaining and engaging. i havent heard of the bell witch, no doubt i'll be up all night studying it xD

    Personally, I find the Bell Witch as one of the most plausible and mysterious, based on all the info we know about it. Its worth the investigation, imo.
     
    I don't think there is anything "super-natural" out there, however I don't think science has uncovered everything there is to know about the universe either.

    Nevertheless, I am a huge nut for cryptozoology, UFOs and other "weird" phenomena. I don't necessarily "believe it", but I think it's fun to play along with anyway. ;p

    I am also in the process of creating a life-sized (7ft.) kite based on the Mothman for a school project. ^_^

    Same here, I love the stuff. I've actually driven on the Mothman Bridge, well the new one that was built there after the old one collapsed. :/

    Well, the story gets its start from the old W.W.II lab/arms factory in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Mothman was originally thought of as a weird mutation from the exposure to nuclear waste, other biological hazards, etc.

    So then people in Point Pleasant began to see the Mothman, and every report mentioned the same thing- piercing red eyes and a vaguely humanoid body. It was all over the city, and it always seemed to be sighted before accidents of some sort.

    Then everything came to a head in 1967 when Mothman was supposedly seen, in broad daylight, just as the Silver Bridge collapsed, killing 46 people or so.

    Now the sightings these days aren't as abundant, but Point Pleasant still gets hit with them every year. And Mothman is ingrained in the local culture now.

    another creepy tidbit is that apparently Mothman was seen on 9/11 too, just before the attack.

    very interesting, makes me wish my town had some mysterious background tied to it. there was a cemetery near where i used to live that my friends and i would explore, there had been some stories being passed around about some "spiritual activity" there. my friends would always hear something or see something and i'd be the lone skeptic accusing them of over-exaggerating, but one time i swore i heard vague children's laughter but looking back i think it was my mind messing with me xD maybe i'm the one who's blinded by my skepticism!

    There's your ghost story for the day. xD

    I myself have seen some odd occurrences. Once at halloween, around the age of 10, I legitimately saw thousands of crows flying in a circle over this house in my old cul-de-sac.

    My grandma told me a story that when her mom died in the 70's, the lights in the room flickered and went out temporarily. 0_0
     
    A thread about the paranormal yes, I'm a big fan of a lot of paranormal/supernatural related stuff and often believe that ghosts are around here often whispering in the winds and other things, people have called me freaky/and or crazy for believing in all this but I could care less about what they think. I would love to be a paranormal investigator some day the shows that I watch on television always get me all crazed and love to learn of people experiences and other things that occur. A while ago the land I live in, Indians used to live here which I find very interesting, at my old public school they had found some artifacts, unsure if they were Indian artifacts or back in the ice age but I highly doubt that. I loved staring at the collection and just wanted it for myself. I've also believe that at my old place I used to be haunted by ghosts, yes it's quite the long story I have if any of you want to know all of it.

    I'd love to hear some good stories on the matter.

    Like I previously said, everybody has the one little event that makes them believe. Having seen some paranormal things myself, I do think there are things that transcend the earthly plane we're on, and that we can't readily explain with conventional means. I think that's why those myths and Legends in the OP have yet to be discredited yet. Maybe, just maybe, there is something else at hand here.

    I don't think that the existence of Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster has been disproved, either.

    Sure, there's a lack of existence to show that they ever existed, but the same could be said of anything supernatural.
     
    I indeed have seen it, and am a normal watcher when it's on. I will also share some of my stories soon when I get the time to write out like five paragraphs.

    Very true. Loch ness legends have existed for centuries in Scotland, and cultures all over the world have Bigfoot/yeti/Sasquatch myths and legends.

    They can't be completely disproven, yet they can't fully be explained either, imo.
