I wouldn't really group books and writing together, myself. I can't really get through 99% of books, but I'm actively involved in roleplaying, written reviews, and thematic analysis (as well as the sweet, sweet writing of ideas). Actually, I guess I'd say that thematic analysis and the facets related to it are part of why I'm invested in anime and manga.

The CGI in Appregio made me completely uninterested, but thanks to Sidonia my acceptance for 3D anime has gone up significantly. Much more so than most of my anime-watching friends.

Ah, Kancolle. It's like a baby Touhou, except the creator actually wants it publicized. Well, and the characters are canonically sexualized.

I need to play it one day, but I don't really see the anime being too good. The anime is a matter of money, but doujin are more personal. Sure, money's a major factor too, but you're probably going to get something more creative out of the doujin simply because it's out of the fandom. -Not for franchises in general, just bigger doujin series like Touhou and Kancolle.
