So after my graduation ceremony from college (and quoting duke, after 5 f***in years), im finally free of student status and i met up with my friends to talk about our usual s**t before heading to our place for the celebration. One of the topics of conversation i had with my friends was among the old school FPS games they remember or are most fond of, i was surprised by their high opinion of Duke Nukem 3D and of course the Duke Himself.
So basically, if youve been living under a nuclear fallout shelter (wink wink), Duke Nukem is the main hero of the series of video games Duke Nukem and the Duke is known for being a character made out of action hero/movie references and hyper masculinity out of the butt. As one of those 90s era characters, Duke is basically the 90s kid in video game form, and Duke Nukem 3d was that game that got him the fame.
However fast forward to 2011, years after Duke Nukem 3D (and fps games being manly as f**k games before Doom '16 came and oh wait thats another story for the meantime) and the sequel being delayed multiple times to a story of its own, Duke Nukem Forever was released and it was an ill fated time for Duke Nukem himself. Aside from DNF's gameplay being criticized for feeling shoddy for all the reasons, Duke himself was heavily shunned by the public for his character being outdated, offensive, and overly reliant on crude and sexist behavior, some people even comparing him to a 12 year old internet roll on steriods. Sad to say since DNF, the Duke hasnt been in a good spot for most people.
Lets cut to the chase. Do you like Duke Nukem? What was about Duke that you liked and do you feel that the current dislike for Duke is justified today or are people acting like they have a stick shoved in their planet uranuses?
