Well, honestly, do you think Alola lived up to the hype?

IMO, I reallllyyyyyreallyreally love Alola, but it didn't live up to hype.
Especially with the Ultra-Beasts, they'd put so much emphasis on them during the trailers that I was expecting to battle & encounter the other UB's during the storyline. I would've of liked it if there was more interaction with the Aether Foundation so the plot twist would be more effective.

Bonus Questions: Did Alola live up to your expectations? Do you consider Alola's nontraditional features to top off past generations'? Why or why not?

It depends on how much you like Sun and Moon.

But very few things ever live up to the hype really, given the crazy amounts of hype companies try to generate with their games these days, and then how easy it is to go overboard once you're on the hype train.

I think Alola is good, but not the best. I honestly liked Kalos better. Not as much hand holding and I could generally go at my own pace. It's nitpicky, but Sun/Moon don't have an in game National Dex which really disappointed me. Alola feels more like a reboot than a new gen. That said, I really enjoyed the change of pace and the games are fun. I don't remember the last time I actually had a difficult time with the Elite Four and Champion that wasn't the result of the computer being cheap or getting really lucky.
