Do you think Friend Safaris will return?

I really hope they don't leave them out of Sun & Moon just so people occasionally go back to play X & Y.

I believe they'll make a similar thing to friend safaris if they don't bring them back, maybe friend safaris with more Pokémon or variety? Who knows :3

Unlikely. If Friend Safaris weren't a thing in ORAS (which brought most of X/Y's mechanics and features), I heavily doubt they'll be a thing in S/M. They seem to be far too Kalos-specific, and to be honest? I hope we get something better, anyway. The Friend Safari honestly felt so limiting because although it encouraged you to go out and register people on your 3DS to find the Pokemon you want, chances are, they might not even have that kind of Pokemon in their safari, even if they have the type. It's incredibly tedious and annoying work to ask on the internet who has what kind of friend safari type, especially for those who are normally introverted. :<

So yeah. I have zero problems with Friend Safaris being left out. Bring back something resembling the Safari Zone, and I'll be satisfied.

You can just google "<insert name of Pokemon you want> friend safari" to find someone with the safari you want. From there you still have to contact the person and hope they're willing and available to add you but it's better than a wild goose chase. There's a thread on PC with a list of users and what safaris they have if that helps.

I don't see why they'd have to be exclusive to Kalos. It seems like a basic enough feature for them to include in any game they wanted to. I wouldn't be against a different kind of safari so long as we have some kind of means to catch HA Pokemon.

I really didn't like the Friend Safari, not because I wasn't able to use it but because I didn't like the way it worked. It forced you to have to add random people just to try and get a specific Pokemon and there was always the chance they may not have even had it.

Why add random people when it's much more convenient to look for the HA-exclusive Pokemon in a modified Safari Zone or something? It seems a lot easier that way.

This. It would make for a much better substitute that combines both aspects of the Friend Safari and traditional Safari Zones.

I hope they bring it back. Really did enjoy the friend safari, it was one of the very few things that I actually liked about X and Y.

They might have an improved version that does something similar, just with a different name.

Personally I think it would be interesting if there was a location in the game where wild Pokemon your friends (on your friend list who have the game) knocked out or ran away from show up. Like a sort of second chance for Pokemon that would otherwise be discarded by the game.

and maybe in this area they could have also Pokemon not available in the main region appear rarely.

This way it would still keep the friend aspect but you wouldn't need them in order to get the exclusive Pokemon.

The reason behind friend safari was to put starters in the game that we can't really get in other games. They have said they wanted to make more ways for people to catch pokemon. Not to mention that the friend safarii had an increased chance of finding perfect EVs/IVs whatever they are called, which lead to shines becoming more common.

I think something similar will take its place. I don't think it will be exactly the same, but it would be nice if the made the Vivillon types easier to collect. Instead of it being based of the person who is catching them, it could be based on the person who has it in their friend Safarii. It would also be nice to have a few more pokemon for each friend safarii. And make it something other than just grass.

I also think something similar to an Old Safarii should return, but I just hope the time limit does return with it. They removed that in ORAS. So hopefully the step limit or time limit will not return.

Anyone opposed to friend safari's: They're like the easiest way to catch shinies in ANY game... effortlessly. The best thing is you can CHOOSE what Pokemon you want as shiny. r/friendsafari is still hugely active. People are still actively using it every single day. You don't have to make friends with people nearby, you don't even need to know people, just look for a Pokemon combination a random has - add each other and boom you have a pretty high chance to get a shiny YOU WANT just by running around for a while. Easier than breeding and every other way to find shinies. How can you not want that back?

Absolutely all for friend safari's to return. UNFORTUNATELY I don't think they'll come back like they were in XY but I hope there's another great way to find shinies, similar to that. Don't mind if it's a proper Safari or w/e.

Unlikely. If Friend Safaris weren't a thing in ORAS (which brought most of X/Y's mechanics and features), I heavily doubt they'll be a thing in S/M.

Trainer customisation was a feature in XY that ORAS didn't bring back and exists in S/M.

Even still there's a ton of features that'll probably have skipped the remake anyways. You'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, go on reddit. But that's the thing, you can't get every Pokemon in the game anyway. You couldn't in any generation. The whole point of Pokemon is trading (which is what this effectively comes under). You're meant to communicate with other people. These Pokemon were just additional extras. If there was no friend safari you wouldn't have them anyway. You have to go on GTS if you don't have the previous games anyway so to 'catch 'em all' you still have to take the extra step. Why give up something that SO many people use for shiny hunting because it's inconvenient? Judging by the activity on reddit nobody has a problem with it (you're not exactly asking, you just make a thread and people will add you based on what you're esp looking for - it's actually quicker than signing onto GTS honestly). The Safari of recent gens hasn't really had amazing Pokemon there anyway. This way you're able to get relatively uncommon Pokemon - a cooler variety than the Safari imo. Which is why I'd prefer for FS to return than just the Safari with the same old Pokemon.

@Ammako: love your ideas! Absolutely agree that if they bring back FS, they should make the area a lot more realistic although being post game there might have been space limitations.

Of course! But character customization may/may not be one of them, so we can't say for sure that it is until it's actually 100% confirmed with actual proof.

    That's not my point, though.

Of course. I'll trade if there's an option to, not when I'm forced to. There's a fine line.

Good for the people who want to shiny hunt to interact with others to do so, bad for those people who don't care about shiny hunting and forced to add some random onto their 3DS for the sake of finding a Pokemon that isn't guaranteed to be there.

The people on reddit may not, I may have. :o What if I don't like being forced to add a bunch of people and go through each and every single friend safari to find a particular Pokemon that I really want, and none of the people I add have that Pokemon?

That's why I said to have a modified version of Safari, to include a wider variety of Pokemon that would be obtainable without having to bother people to do something for you that you can do yourself.

In short, the Friend Safari, in my opinion, is inconvenient and a hassle. If it was optional in X/Y and we had a different Safari which acted similarly, I would have no problem with it. But the fact that I had to bother someone to find a particular Pokemon that they very well may not have doesn't sit well with me. But we can agree to disagree here if you'd like!
That's the thing though, they're optional. If they were supposed to be something you could normally catch in the region you'd find them within the region. It's like if you want access to new Pokémon, befriend as many trainers as you can. That's the message they're sending (and seeming likely to go with in Sun and Moon). If they're not going to go with FS they'll most likely go with another feature that relies heavily on befriending other Pokémon trainers all over the world because that's the purpose of Pokémon on their eyes - bring people together. You're not forced to have to add everyone for the extra Pokémon (that if FS didn't exist - you wouldn't have access to them in these games anyway). However the message they're giving is that if you make friends with lots of other Pokémon trainers you will get access to cool Pokémon you can't get anywhere else. It's a surprise they hadn't implemented that in earlier games but bonuses for befriending other trainers that you can't normally get are here to stay.

I mean in BW if you traded with a certain amount of people you got a master ball, which is HUGE. Like you can go on GTS or you can play your previous games to get those cool Pokémon but what they're saying is that if you share Pokémon with the world you'll get them much quicker. It's a nice message honestly and I really do hope Sun and Moon has the same.

Also, one other thing: Vivillon is another case. Getting all the Vivillon via GTS is hard so to collect them (as optional extras) you'll need to befriend people all over the world. Like on recent games this has really been pushed. There's no way to avoid the fact that if FS don't return, there will be more bonus content unlocked if you befriend other trainers.

If they do return, I hope they find a way to sort of combine it with the Johto Safari Zone; I'd love to be able to hook up a bunch of different Friend Safaris together, maybe even throw in some nifty accessories and foliage and stuff, and then run around looking for bunches of different Pokémon. Because while I loved the Friend Safaris for their shiny-hunting potential, I didn't like them on a more fundamental level of "only three Pokémon per Safari" thing.

I do actually like the sound of that.. Though with the three Pokémon per Safari it does at least give you a good chance of finding the shiny you want.

Honestly I did like the Friend Safari, but what I did not like was having to add so many random people to obtain the types and mons I needed. Not only was it a hassle, but it took away precious friend code space. Part of the reason I'm sure they won't bring it back is that I know the developers will have thought of the players who already used up most of their friend space adding people for the X/Y safari. I myself only have about 16 slots left.

I agree; maybe for the sake of keeping that convenience, when you connect the Friend Safaris they could have the obtainable Pokémon in clearly marked sections, similar to Johto's Safari. For instance, if you connect a Fairy, Poison, and Ground Safari together, the Ground Pokémon will appear in a dry, mountainy section, then a neighboring swamp will house the Poison Pokémon. And the Fairy-Types can be found in a flowery, misty section. So you'd still have the small number of Pokémon working in your favor for shiny-hunting but they're still connected together. Maybe by linking certain Friend Safari Types together you could get bonuses to the Pokémon you obtain, such as 3 or even 4 guaranteed perfect IV stats, or higher chance of having the Hidden Ability.

Bingo! Now that's perfect. Game Freak, are you getting this? ^^

ALso let's not forget the friend safari also required the 2 players to be connected to unlock the third slot.
