Do you think Pokemon will release more old games on the Virtual Console?

So, what do you guys think? Fyi, I'm talking about the main franchise games, not the spinoff ones

    Reasons why they might;
    • For competition, game consoles everywhere are now trying to enable backwards compatibility to their consoles, Pokemon being one of the more popular titles, it would make sense that Nintendo would want to release their old games
    • So newer fans can have a chance to play older titles
    • So older fans can have a chance to replay the older titles if they no longer have their old handheld/old cartigates
    • Finding old games is hard since a lot of gaming stores only carry DS and 3DS games

    Reason why they won't,

    • It's a lot of work adding backwards compatibility.
    • It may be only for celebration of the 20th anniversary

I honestly see more Pros in releasing old titles in the eShop than I do with cons. But the major con will always be that it does take a lot of effort to do backwards compatibility.

I would really really love to see G/S/C on the eShop, if they announce it, I would probably cry lol

I'm hoping for GSC as well. Gold was my favorite game ever, and I'd like a version that doesn't rely in a fairly short-lived battery. I'm inclined to think they might release GSC, though I don't know for sure (obviously). Now that RBY are going to be able to transfer Pokemon to gen 7, it seems like some of the data structure problems separating gens I and II from the later ones have been resolved. Thus, it would make sense to re-release GSC and send those Pokemon forward as well. Also, I think GSC were built on a similar engine as RBY, so I assume it wouldn't be too much effort to modify their trading code to make them wirelessly compatible like RBY now are. Given that, the titles seem like easy money makers.

Additionally, there isn't anything slated between March (Pokken) and the end of the year (S/M). That normally wouldn't be an issue, but this is a huge year, with the anniversary and all. Plus, Nintendo isn't doing too well, and Pokemon is a well-received series. Why not capitalize on that and release more games? They'll sell well, especially with the nostalgia factor, and they're less expensive to make than brand-new games. Depending on how well received RBY are (does anyone know how well they've been selling on the eShop?), I could definitely see GSC releasing over the summer/early fall. (Maybe spring, but I think they may let things settle first.)

I could also see more PMD and Ranger games getting released on Wii U this year. They're only out in Europe so far, but hopefully they'll be released elsewhere too (since they'd probably sell reasonably well in every region).

I would also love to see Stadium and Stadium 2 re-released, complete with compatibility with RBY and (the hopefully to-be-released) GSC. I don't own a Wii U yet, and my old Stadium games still work (though my GSC cartridges don't), but I would probably buy a system just to enjoy the full glory of using my trained Pokemon in Stadium 1/2 again. I think Stadium is less likely to be released than GSC, though (they'd have to find a way around the transfer pak, and I'm not sure the Wii U is profitable enough to be worth investing that much effort in).

If RBY is a success, I don't see why not. GSC is also immensely popular and every gen 2 lover I know would buy it in a heartbear. Personally I hope they release not only GSC, but RSE as well!

If they release Gold/Silver/Crystal for the same $10 price point that they released Red/Blue/Yellow at, I would probably buy all three the moment they go on sale.

Or at least Crystal, as that is the only one I don't have of the three.

Boy, what a great year this would be. Generation 1 re-releases. Generation 2 re-releases. All these new cards and merchandise. And Generation 7; Sun and Moon.

I can definitely see it with RBY being a huge hit. I am not sure if I expect it in the near future...it may be later this year or even after the release of SuMo but I do expect them to hit the eshop at some point in time. There's not much of a reason for them not to really.

My Pokemon Crystal battery ran dry a long time ago and that game holds a serious place in my heart. I'd love for Nintendo to release GSC on the Virtual Console so everyone can enjoy those classic games again.
