What are reserves? Reserves are Pokémon that are at Oak's or with other trainers. These include Charizard and Squirtle; in other words Pokémon that he can call upon. Not so much Pidgeot, Lapras, Primeape, Haunter, or Butterfree.

Okay, so during the Kanto League our hero had to make due with his first couple of Pokémon and he placed in the Top 16. In the Johto League, he used his reserves throughout most of the league and finished in the Top 8. In the Hoenn League, he finished in the Top 8 again without using in any of his Kanto or Johto Pokémon.

So, our hero basically lost to Paul in the latest Japanese episode and that has led to some questions whether or not Ash's Sinnoh team is strong enough to compete with Paul, Barry, and possibly Nando. Using his reserves could help him win the Sinnoh League but steal the spotlight from his Sinnoh team. Not using them though could possibly lead him to lose once again in the Top 8 or the Top 4 maybe. So what do you think: should Ash use his reserves for the Sinoh League or stick with his Sinnoh Team throughout the league?

I'd love to see some of the classics back in action, but we'll have to see I guess

I say ash should use all of his pokemon and switch them around when needed. Mostly his sinnohs though since realisticly they havent experienced a pokemon league yet. I wonder if some of Ash's pokemon are jealous of his pikachu.....always with him....lol i know bayleaf is XD

I think he should try evolving his Bayleaf, Totadile and Cyndaquil sometime soon, I would say Bulbasaur and Squirtle but I remembered they don't want to evolve like Pikachu

Use the reserves, I say. It's good to go into battle and show some of your newer Pokemon experience like that, but using the Pokemon that have many more years of training would be the smartest move a trainer could do.

Then again, it's a smart idea, so Ash probably won't do it.

I think ash should use his old classics back in the sinnoh league. Would be pretty nice if he did ^^.

It would be as exciting as how he did bring back some classics into the Battle Frontier. :D

I think that Ash would have the hardest special trainings of his life.
I think the best thing to do is to train with all his Sinnoh+reserves Pokemon, before the Sinnoh League starts.

No way in hell do I want the reserves to return. This is a rivalry not based on ash hating paul and all alone. Its now a full fledge hate war between Pokemon of both sides. If anything ash will train his team pretty hard. At the end I can expect them to be much stronger then they are now.

No. When Dawn asked him after his first gym loss if he was going to use his reserves to win, Ash said he wanted to use his team now, like he did in Hoenn, and he doesn't always need his stronger ones to win a battle. I reckon the writers are going to stick to that and that's what he'll do at the league, too. Through DP we've seen him make up a few strategies and change the way he uses moves to defeat his opponents, I think that's what he'll do this time, rather than just calling in all of his stronger Pokemon ^^ Although, it'll be harder against Paul since he changes his Pokemon all the time.

If the timing is right, he can use his Johto reserves if/when he goes back to Johto to advertise HGSS

logically it is the correct thing to do but the writers will never do it. The fact his charizard is so strong and is his strongest pokemon. It can beat legendary Pokemon and will beat most pokemon in the league. Unless they want to make Ash win the league which I think they should so they can start a Elite 4 series then that is the only reason he should bring back his old pokemon like charizard

I doubt in the league Paul will go with reserves. Its now besides a rivalry on their views a grudge match between the Pokemon as I stated so this will be a true rivalry battle of Pokemon not views.

I think, if he gets past the quarters. He'll call upon Charizard and Sceptile, perhaps Snorlax to as he does like to use Snorlax. But I think them three at most in them circumstances. He wont call up Pokémon like Heracross, Tauros, etc and I highly doubt Squirtle and Bulbasaur will make an appearance any time soon.

I should say yes. He should use it. But before using it. He should train it. Maybe his other Pokemons might learn New Skills right? ( Skills from Sinnoh ).Or Maybe. Some of his Pokemon might evolve. Right? Also. If he would train all of his Pokemon. Im sure he'll win the Sinnoh League. XD. Hope he would. ^^

Why would Paul's Pokemon have a grudge against Ash's Pokemon? He's just another trainer to them. It doesn't seem as though any of the Pokemon in particular have a grudge against each other, it's only Paul and Ash that dislike each other because of their differing views. Other than Monferno, I mean, but even then, that's just with Paul rather than his Pokemon. Paul's Torterra helped out Ash's Grotle when it evolved, I don't think that was for nothing. If it had been up to Paul, then Torterra wouldn't have helped out, but Torterra chose to. I think it was to show that although the trainers may dislike each other, it doesn't mean the Pokemon do and that they're not exactly the same as their trainers.

Paul switches his Pokemon whenever he finds a stronger one. He stopped using his Gliscor, he used his reserve Pokemon against Brandon and an Azumarill for the first Sinnoh gym, which could have been a reserve and he'll probably keep doing stuff like that up until the league. Paul just goes with whatever's strongest, so he'll probably choose between his team and reserves at the league while Ash goes with his DP team.

I meant like it seems ash's Pokemon will be edgy towards Paul after this and would really want to battle him themselves more then anything and it would be good to see the Pokemon wanting to truly beat him as well. It also seems very likely as Pikachu is eager to battle him and chimchar well he just wants to lay down some pain.

Yes, he should generate the best possible team from every region he has been on. It helped him in the Johto League and such, it would be cool seeing Ash with a team at its strongest out of all of his pokemon. Charizard is his closer, he should use him for every league IMO.

Obviously, a majority of fans want to see the reserves return, but it probably won't happen. True, it would be good advertising for HG/SS, but there has just been way too much character development on Ash's pokemon this season for them to not use any of them in the League. Plus, there's still the Team Galactic showdown between Ash and co., not to mention the final Gym battle with Volkner, so I find it likely that that's when Ash's team will get a majority of their training. And if they want to advertise HG/SS for next year, they already did that in the movie, so I don't see why it would be necessary for the writers to bring back any Johto pokemon.
