Does anyone else think that Metal Gear Solid would have worked better as a TV series?

Although the gameplay in MGS games is pretty top notch, the winding story and how it all comes together in the MGS4, I just kept thinking "Why isn't this a TV series?". Considering how long the games are, movies just wouldn't work. But a TV series would work quite well. I mean, it already has half-an-hour cutscenes. The stories are always good and there are such twists. I think it would be a hit. But they would have to A. Refine the story of the first two Metal Gear games insanely or B. get rid of them all together. I mean, wouldn't you like to come to a plot twist from the games just for it to say. TOBECONTINUED, with the gameover music playing. You know. The one that goes, dun dun dundundun, dun dun dun: I think I'd have a panic attack if that happened.

So, if the Metal Gear Solid series was a TV show, would you watch it? Do you think it would be a good idea? Do you think that if it was a TV show, that it would be more popular than the games are? Would it work better as an anime or a live action show?

    No because
    a) all the actors would be awful
    b) because the bulk of what made MGS great was the gameplay
    c) it would be americanised (Snake's enemies are nearly ALWAYS American/British)
    d) Did i mention that it's meant to be a game?

Metal gear 1/2 fit in with the main story fine, the only one that doesn't is MGS2 with all it's inconsistencies.

This idea is just stupid IMO.

MGS has become a monster brand due to innovative gameplay.

The story on it's own couldn't hold up at all..Like with most games that are meant to have great story lines.

    Take Advent Children for example.

MGS is enough like a movie/TV series already, but it could only be so popular as a game. The story is idiotic and poorly written, and the only reason why it gets away with that is because it's a game. Once the game aspect is gone, people would tear its stupid story to pieces.

In order for it to work, they would essentially have to kick Hideo Kojima out of the picture entirely, seeing as he can't write or direct for beans. Everything would need a major creative overhaul, even the political underpinnings of the story itself.

    Take Advent Children for example.
Hear, hear! I was embarrassed to see how popular AC was. It was like Square wanted to confirm the claims that FFVII is overrated.

I don't want to start a flamewar but your statement is ridiclious. How can a series that rarely scores below a 9.3 and is always cited for it's great story be poorly written? That in itself is a matter of your (or lack of) taste.

Seriously though, it would be such a bizarre TV show, and I think that only hardcore (and stupid) MGS fans would enjoy it. I hate the idea of a MGS movie, (unless David Hayter is Snake) let alone a MGS show. Also, one of my favorite things about MGS games is it's odd style of immersion and atmosphere. I really think that being able to fast forward, rewind, etc. would ruin it.

They're going easy on the story because it's a video game, which brings with it absurdly low expectations. It's fine by video game standards, but it's absolute garbage by TV/movie standards. Take a look at the Max Payne movie. Game critics praised the game's story, movie critics tore the movie's story apart. Same thing with FFVII. I loved the story of FFVII, but I'm not going to pretend for a minute that it wasn't a poorly-edited, nonsensical, convoluted mess.

I think it's best for the industry to keep games and movies separated. Games will only be recognized as a higher form of entertainment when they stop trying to emulate movies and tell stories in a manner that better suits a game.

    No.

You're either insane, or incredibly stupid. MGS would have sucked as a TV series.

Why need a tv series when you just bought a 60 dollar movie?
Seriously though a game to a tv series is the worst idea ever and many things can confirm that.
