It seems like whatever pokemon forum I go to, a lot of people are using a download ss/hg ect. Is it harder for a person with the physical then a person that downloaded? Plus when you go to different sites, smogon ect, a lot of the battling leagues or battles period have been set up on a trainer program.

Basically, should I quit playing and go buy a flash cart? Or does it not really matter?

Don't really matter. But I have a physical copy.

I actually own HG/SS/D/Pt all physical retail carts. I personally like owning the real legit game over a flash card (though i plan on buying one in the future :P still going to buy the retail games when they come out though.)

Thought it doesnt really matter depending on what your using your game for.

I hate it when people buy the ROMS, Emulators, Flash Cards and anything else that is not the actual, legiable game for the DS. The game was made for the DS, so I think htat's how it should be bought. ALL my PKMn games and all my video games for that matter are on the actual copy of the game amde for the specific Game Boy or DS system.

^People don't buy roms nor emulators. They buy flash carts.

Usually having a flash cart doesn't change anything but in HG/SS' case it does. The pokewalker is not compatible with any sort of flash cart. Other than that, the wifi/multiplayer/etc should work exactly as a regular retail cart.

I bought HG and pearl, and I got them on a flash cart, but it actually doesn't matter.
The program they're using on smogon is probably Shoddy, a program used for battling other people online.

I own retail copies of Ruby, DPPt and SS, plus a LG that's floating around somewhere in this house. I honestly don't have or know of any other way to get the games, haha.

I much prefer retail copies for the portable aspect & the fact that, as Thorns said, the games were made to be played on the consoles. I played a LeafGreen ROM when it first came out & it just didn't feel the same, so I haven't tried any other ROMs since.

Answered so closing. In this case I would normally say to use the HG/SS for further questions, except when it comes to questions on ROMs, flash carts, etc. this isn't really the right place to ask it. I suggest using the [Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver] Emulation Help Thread. My input on this though, it doesn't really matter which you get. I however would choose the retail copy over the flash cart as you have the benefit of the PokéWalker, as well as having a legit copy of the game. That's just how I see it anyway. Note, I've never played any of the games on a ROM or flash cart, I've always waited for it to be released near me in which I would then buy it.
