One day my friend and my cousin were over at my house. I had been searching for a ralts for about an hour and my cousin was searching for a skarmory for about 30 minutes. My friend said that I wasnt finding ralts because I had been running in the grass instead of walking. So I tried walking and I found 4 ralts in a row . My cousin had been walking in the grass and my friend told him to run in order to find skarmory, so he tried. Then he found 2 skarmorys <_<

Is this just a coincidence, or does walking/running/biking affect the encounter rate of some pokemon?

No, I've used the step counter. I run into a pokemon every couple of steps when I ride a bike, but then when I walk I can walk 20 steps (in a cave) w/out running into a Pokemon.

AFAIK it's a completely random process running multiple in game "scripts" that report back to the main engine. I don't think there is a bike multiplier.

It's just random, but there have been coincidences. (Like in my Diamond, no other trainers chose Keira as a judge. I always chose her and won.) Each game has different odds. That's all.

    hmm I wander
skarmory's speed is quite high and its not that small whilst ralts is quite slow and small so maybe more timid
    so here is my theory
ralts is quite timid and slow so walking would put the rate up
skarmory isn't small atall and is quite fast so maybe running ups the rate

it could be a coinsidence but it cou;d really be anything =/

I think the question was about whether the player is walking, running, or biking.

Speed of the Pokemon is certainly not a direct factor. Pokemon have different odds based on location, base stats, evolution status, and the characteristics of common Pokemon around them. Type and relative local Pokedex # can also factor in, but not just speed.

That is exactly what my friend said when he told us to walk for ralts and run for skarmory:laugh:

I'm not sure, but whenever I ride a bike, I run into a wild pokemon often, but when I walk, I don't run into Pokemon often.

Same for me whenever I ride a bike or run I encounter more pokemon. I think the faster you go you may encouter more pokemon, but you won't encounter certain pokemon because of running or walking.
