3rd Gen Dominated by Wallace...

My apologies, graceofbaal. I misread your first post.

Single-type teams will ALWAYS fail against multi-type teams. Hmmmm, let me rephrase that. A GOOD Single-type team built by someone who knows what they are doing will ALWAYS fail against a GOOD multi-type team built by someone who knows what they are doing. Aside from Water-type (that has an ungodly amount of different options), single-type teams share too many of the same weaknesses to be truly effective.

I am still waiting for Game Freak to come out with a game that actually has a difficulty level and gym leaders/Weak5 that don't share the same faulty logic, but after reading about DP, I guess I will have to wait even longer.

I agree with you, Graceofbaal.
That's why I wish that one of the games would give you the option of being a Gym Leader/ Elite Four member
There's just so many possibilities of coolness with a one-type team...

That would be awesome beyong awesome. It also gives you a sort of trademark. Very few people I know of use an all-Steel team, like me. (Well, I lie... it's not all-Steel. I have a Claydol in mine, but about half of them have a Steel type LOL). And that's how all of my Pokefriends know me - as the Steel guy. And Steel only had two good weaknesses: both of which can be covered in most cases.

Also, Shanecdavis, I do agree with you to an extent. Water is an amazing type in these games, and one of my favourites. But I think any single-type team can cover their own weaknesses. Aggron can learn Surf and Solar Beam. Surf takes out Ground and Fire, Solar Beam takes out Water. I think he can learn a good Thunder move too.

With a multi-type team, you have the benefit of much more versatility. A truly powerful single type team, if you ask me, proves how good of a trainer you actually are, because it's harder to strategize. But if you know your weaknesses, you can formulate a single type team that is perhaps just as good as a multi-type, but with one difference: you are a master of that type.

Of course, this is just my opinion - I feel that the game is just for fun. I go into a battle wanting to win, but moreso I just want to have fun. Steel makes me happy. LOL, and that's all that matters when it comes to a video game. Just have some fun with it!

shanecdavis LOL my all water team could blaze through it is conposed of: fralagtr
swampert
octillery
mantine
qwilfish
vaporeon

and im unbeatable my friend has a team of ubers and i can kick his butt

Ahhahaha i disagree because your aggron is also weak to fighting which Btw my blaziken is a fighting type and it just happens that my blazikens speed is 200+ so ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Also Solarbeam will not take out water because it is a charge move you'll die b4 you get to shoot it so it doesnt really cover your weaknees, if they say bring out a lapras :P you'll be owneded

Also Steel is only Super Effective Against:
Rock and Ice

Which is crap if i bring out my Lapras and Glalie

i just captured the level 70 Rayquaza and beat Wallace w/ it :P

i used my magneton on most his pkmn... it pwnd him, cause the water isnt very effective against magnetons steel/electric type :)

my problem was that nasty salamence of drake... took me a few times, eventually killing him with Blaziken's Mirror Move doing Dragon Claw xD I was laughing hard that i did not think of that before...

hahaha, you and me both!

And Paranoia, a Steel team isn't about attack per se. Specialty teams tend to be high in a specific stat - for Steel it's Defence, and in Metagross' case, Special Defence. Just like Psychic Pokemon tend to have a monster Special Attack, but terrible Defence.

With Steel (and often Rock types), the power doesn't come in being able to take out opponents in one move. It comes from being able to withstand LOTS of hits. In many cases, even being able to withstand super effective hits; I've seen Metagrosses take Overheats and Earthquakes without batting an eyelash.

Blaziken's duel Fire and Fighting types makes it weak against many many other types. Water, Ground, Rock, Psychic, and Flying. Steels have three main weaknesses: Fire (which can be covered by the numerous Ground moves they can learn), Ice, and Fighting (which can be covered, more or less, with a Skarmory). So in the long run you really only have to be very careful against one type; two at most.

Of course, this is coming from a guy who used an all Steel team in Crystal (this was back when there were only three or four good Steel Pokemon), and won against friends nearly every time, against same level pokemon. Maybe they just sucked. LOL

But I'm simply saying that on some occasions, a single type team can be just as good as a multi-type team. Hey, maybe I'm wrong...maybe - but that leaves for the Pokemon Battle Field to decide. ;-)

you know what's a fun pokemon to use pre-E4?
Vigoroth ;D
catch it in the forest, teach it encore, focus punch, return, and reversal.
i used it to kill the dark and ice guys,
rayquaza's crunch for the ghost chick and dragon claw for the Dragon guy.
And Sceptile finished Wallace w/ leaf blade.
my swellow was worthless, though :/

of course, after that you can trade around and Vigoroth wasn't as great anymore.

And Wallace was the easiest to me after Sidney. O.O Everything you need to beat Wallace is a couple of good sweepers, maybe a tanker too.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is as amazed as I am at just how powerful a single-type team can be. I was always under the impression that a multi-type team (like your Rival in the original games) was the strongest kind of team you could have, but wow... Wallace is by far the most powerful Champion out of all the Pokemon games.

It sounds like your friend's uber team has horrible DVs, natures and movesets. That, or your Pokémon are on a much higher level than your friend's. Seriously, if you can't take down a team of 4 UUs and 2 OUs with 6 ubers, you're a very sad trainer indeed. ._. Kyogre alone could sweep through your whole team. Groudon, Mewtwo and Latios also come in mind.

Meh... mono type teams will always fail against good players unless you have a huge amount of hax on your side or your opponent has no idea what (s)he's doing. Mono type teams are fun, but worthless against any good player. And have you ever thought that most good players don't even use a Fire type Pokémon, but a good Pokémon with a Fire type move. The same thing goes for Ground. I also fail to see why Ice would be one of Steel's big weaknesses. In case you didn't know, Steel types resist Ice; I assume you meant Ground, not Ice.

Also, Blaziken isn't weak to Rock due to Fighting types resisting Rock.

And what's the point of Reversal, may ask? Reversal only works with Substitute/Endure and usually fails that way too. Also, Slaking > Vigoroth despite its trait. By the way, anyone who needs Rayquaza to beat the elite four (which, sadly, I did on my first playthrough of Emerald. Of course I would never train a n00bish team like that anymore. ._.) has a very sad team. Beating the E4 with your Pokémon being 30 levels higher than any of the elites' Pokémon and being an uber is something even a 4 year old could do.

And of course your Vigoroth was pretty much worthless when you didn't evolve it. ._.

Losing to anybody but Gary/Steven/Red In-Game I think is pretty pathetic. If you can't kill him with your Grass or Electric, then you are forced to use something with Calm Mind, so it can't really hurt you. Sceptile should do the job, but so should Magneton because it resists Ice Beam. Just choose something and try again.

To bad you have already done I was going to tell you that your Aggron can learn Thubnderbolt.
Anyway I see you found the easy way catch Rayquaza and dominate Wallace like I did.

Well, I chose Treecko as my starter, so it was eaaaaaaaaaassssy. ^_^ (except for the Ice attacks)
And I also had some Electric types with me. :o

easy

wallace is the easiest trainer to beat on emerald, because on ruby and sapphire u can only catch rayquaza (lv 70) after u beat the elite four and steven (stephen?) but on emerald when u break up the fight between groudon and kyogre, just go back to sky pillar, and rayquaza will be waitin there for ya. just use the master ball and teach it a move that can wipe the floor with water and ice pokemon with one hit!

pokemaniac93, over and out

Using Rayquaza against the Weak5 is totally lame. The AI is pathetic enough without resorting to using an uber Poke that is over 15 levels higher than anything you will face. I guess if you aren't skilled enough to win without it, that is your game and your choice.

Its not necessarily the fact you dont have the skills to beat them but the fact that you dont want to waste your time trying to defeat them with trouble(ranging little to alot) when you can just pwn them easily with rayquaza and probably the starter you have. Why waste a good Pokemon? Might as well get its use.

Wallace is a sinch! I faced him and the E4 with one of my worst teams ever (I was challenging myself to only use three Pokemon for the whole game, three because of the battle tents) and I still wiped the floor with them all.
Blaziken
Electrike
Skitty
I had some other Pokemon on my team, but they're not strong enough for anything. But still, two pre evo's and a fire type against Wallace and I still beat him.

To each their own, I guess. Personally, I would find this game EXTREMELY dull and boring if I just went around destroying everything with a Lv70 uber. The game is easy enough, without using something cheap like that. Must just be me.

I agree with you. I don't see much point in using super-powerful Pokemon that you just caught. I know some people who have started Emerald, traded their Pokemon onto a different to sweep through the whole game. I just don't see the point.

well nobody has mentioned Castform. why is that? i have a Castform lv: 51 which i'm training so i can rip through the E4. My Swampert knows Ice Beam and my Castform knows Blizzard so i've already defeated Drake. My Castform also knows Rain Dance, enabling any super effective(normal damage) moves from Wallace as he mainly uses Ice/Water and my Castform also knows Thunder and Weather Ball so i don't see why i should waste any master Ball(s) on one of the biggest Uber's when i could just use it on Latias/Latios.

Castform is a very good little beasty.
