7. Layers -> Transparency -> Add Alpha Channel.
Click the button with the 3 colored squares on the left window. Select the white, then press delete.

Wouldn't the magic wand be better so that it doesn't add transparency to the white that is part of the image?

9. I forgot: Eraser + Anti-erase the part that was corrupted. Use an appropriate brush.

Yeah, the wand works better. I haven't tried the eraser thing, though.

Oh, and Kev, I've been meaning to ask you: In that game/flash you linked a while back, when you get high enough in the UFO portion and fall and the picture thing comes up, is that Yukari on top of Reisen in it? Because she doesn't LOOK like Yukari, but...

If there are a lot of changes in directions (you're not always trying to cut out squares), it'll take more time than just removing the whites.

Make your paths, then click Selection from Path on the left window.
