Spoiler:

Basically, Natsu, Wendy, and Lucy didn't get engulfed by something like the rest of Magnolia did. Natsu and Wendy have Charle and Happy, who are from Edras, the place they're in right now, and Lucy used Hologorium to escape. They all have alternate selves there, and FT is a dark guild. In addition, there isn't much magic other than Lucy's ability to use summon spirits (Natsu and Wendy can't use their magic, nor can Charle and Happy). They're going to the kingdom so they can save Magnolia from having its magic extracted and used for evil.
