Heck, I'm the shounen fan. And while AB! was mostly shounen (perhaps seinen, in fact?), the ending reminded me of something shoujo-ish, so of course I wouldn't expect it.

Although, now that I think about it, at least it didn't end in a cliffhanger like two of Arina Tanemura's series. The manga completes them, but nonetheless, it would've been nice if the anime had solid endings too.
