I was watching pokemon on tv today (first time in like 10 years..), and they had an old episode up of the first pokemon league. ash is fighting this kimono girl with a karate belsprout, and during that match (bulbasaur vs scyther) the stadiumspeaker says something about double team, that of course the pokemon is now also harder to hit, but it also lowers defense.. Does it? Did it ever?

When it comes to the games, don't listen to anything the anime says. It misconstrues maaaaany, many things about the mechanics of the game.

It doesn't, it'd be even more broken.

Like Ichida said, don't listen to the show. They pull all sorts of crap you can't pull in the game. (Ash's pikachu can shock EVERYTHING)

I also remember seeing an episode of Pokemon and they showed Pikachu using thunderbolt on a ground type (I think it was Diglet)

    :t354:~*!*~Queen Boo~*!*~

And if it were respectful to the games, that Pikachu would have hit lv100 loooooong ago. I almost thought that the anime had no levels, but in one episode, there's a rich, snobby girl who estimates that Ash's Pikachu is about Level 25.

pff.. only thing about the show i like anyway is jesse's outfit (ha! who's calling pokemon gay?)

It's pretty much like Yu-Gi-Oh when it comes to Pokémon anime. They also put up this completely random crap in their anime that makes you think the rules don't even exist. So yeah, don't listen to the anime.

and what do you mean by that?

I think he meant as in, Pika's skill level dropped back to it's original skill with each region and once again, becomes weaker therefore unable to reach a high level.

The anime and the games have always contradicted each other in some sections, the anime uses the moves to spice it up, but not accounting for game mechanics.

    Seriously.

I don't watch the anime at all, but I looked at Dawn's team, and it said her Buizel beat Pikachu. What the freak? Didn't that same Pikachu take down Onix at Pewter? Didn't he beat all those powerful Pokemon?

And loses to a Buizel that a beginner caught? Yeah, shows what skills your Pikachu has, Ketchup.

I never did understand that, maybe the age is finally catching up to Pikachu? XD

I haven't actually seen that ep, but that has happened many times when Pika seems to get easily defeated by something that is weak, and a beginner.

Even if Pika did take down all those powerful Pokemon, it seems that it no longer is capable of defeating something simple, at least without any training.

well.. if the serie would hang on to levels it would get like dragon ball z at one point.. start out with 100 being a high level, but after 2 seasons you're nothing anymore without a level of ten million..

i guess we should see 'level' not as a hard mathematic fact, but as a indication of the pokemon's experience and personal growth..

Take into affect the classic Pikachu vs. Brock's Geodude and KO'ing it with a thundershock. Or maybe the fact that 2 luvdisc actually beat a mightyena and a sableye owned by team rocket. Just think about, luvdisc. As possible as that is i still can't think that happened. >.>

Pika wins against regice pika can't even beat a buizel
    -_-
Pika must be holding back or something either that or the animators are just.....never played a pokemon game

That's exactly why you can't compare the anime to the game.

It then becomes completely illogical that Pika was so easily beaten when it defeated so many other powerful opponents before. It has disregarded any past experiences or fights it may have had and instead reduced its power for the storyline.

Like someone said on this thread, Asz Ketchup's Pikachu's level migrate to Level 5, Hence being owned a n00b's Buizel. (I hate weasels.)

Anyways, the Pokemon seem to get ENDLESS PPs for their moves. xP

on the other side.. in 2004 greece became european champion soccer while they never won a match before in a big tournament.. sometimes a fresh way of playing or just something completely new can beat the traditional strongest..

    Yeah... but that's life. XD
We're kinda looking at the imaginary boundary of life and make believe where superpowers usually remain as superpowers kind of thing... ^_^
