E.V Training Should Be More Obvious

As all of us probably know, E.V training is a great and essential way of boosting one's stats and strength.

But doesn't it bother you that it's never made obvious in any of the games.

Even on items such as the Macho brace that double E.V points in battle, it never states that in-game, just "Promotes Growth".

I think in upcoming games, Pokemon should try to incorporate the actual explanation of E.V training in the game, and maybe even include an E.V counter on the Pokemon's summary and what points each individual Pokemon gives in battle in the Pokedex.

I agree, it would be nice if they could make it work. Implement it in such a way so you could at least keep track of it. This way the people who don't want to bother with it, woud be able to continue to ignore it.

Mmm. Yeah. I'm playing HG right now and it's the first time that I've ever even attempted to EV train because I didn't really know about it before. I think it's nice that the games have this extra level. I think it would be great if they made it easier for us. You know in D/P how the pokegear has all those extra features (like calculating steps, tracking berry trees, etc.)? I feel like that was the perfect way to incorporate EV tracking. They could've worked something out that way. *wistful sigh*

But idk... Maybe some people enjoy the challenge and the fact that not everyone knows about EV training. I'm, frankly, just glad that they didn't make it even harder for us.

Jack has a good point about incorporating it in a way that regular players could just ignore it. Back before I started EV training, the pop-ups when you reach a new level (displaying the increased stats) used to annoy me. I didn't know the purpose of them. If they created some kind of tracker for us, there'd be no need for the popups. That'd be good xD

maybe by making the game hard on purpose so that EV training is a essential part to the game-play, and saying that specific areas to train in "promote speed in a pokemon" or "promote a hardy pokemon" (defense).

maybe instead of a counter, for being too obvious, there could be some guru that tells you in stages how EV'd your pokemon is. like "barely any experience" (none) and "seems pretty knowledgeable" (almost done). like the guy that tells you what pokecube flavor is preferred.

I would love if EV training was made more obvious in upcoming games. They are a step closer in HG/SS though, with the coloring of the stats name in the summary of a pokemon.

It's more of an exploit than a general game mechanic, and if it was made to easy then it would kinda ruin it. To be honest it wouldn't surprise me if there was a whole new system in B/W

I don't think GameFreak actually said "We're gonna have these things called Effort Values to help growth in a certain stat." Some genius along the line wanted to figure out why his level 100 *insert favorite pokemon here* lost to the same species of pokemon at level 100 that his friend had. He decided to see what kind of things made different stats higher. After a long complicated process, he said "I'm going to call these Effort Values."

Basically, Effort Values are programmed into the game to make pokemon unique and different amongst the same species. Think of it, without them all of our level 100 Mews would essentially be identical (leaving attacks aside).

So my point being, Effort Values are not made obvious because they are put into the game to make each pokeomon different with regards to stats. They were not put in to be discovered.

Perhaps, but Pokémon isn't about EV grinding. It's about Pokémon. Once you start pandering to the hardcore gamers who breed a thousand Pokémon hoping for "the one", you lose part of what attracts the (more numerous) casual gamer.

So I wholly disagree with this thread's premise. In fact, I'll say that it should be harder to EV train, because now it's just number crunching and there's no excitement and randomness left. The only random part at the moment is what IVs your "the one" has, and that's not enough to offset the grinding.
