Ive looked at a fair few sites and i can't find an effort calculator for the pokemon in red/blue/yellow. Can anyone shed any light on thos for me as I have just played through red. Now i want to play through blue, EV train so i have a considerable team for when i get round to Yellow. Can anyone Help? Also im pretty new around here would be cool to make some new mates! Especially people who are currently playing through the old games at the moment! :D

From Bulbapedia: "In Generation I and Generation II effort points given are equal to the Pokémon's base stats."

"The Pokémon data structure contains two EV bytes for each the five stats (HP, Attack, Defense, Speed and Special), starting at zero when caught and with a maximum EV of 65535 for each stat. When a Pokémon is defeated, its base stats are converted to effort points and then added to the EVs. For example, defeating a Mew grants 100 effort points to each EV. (Defeating 656 Mew, therefore, will give a Pokémon maximum EVs in each stat.)"

I don't understand much of this though. :(

so normally example second generation we talk about effort values like a piece of heart in zelda in total for +1 on a stat we need 4 effort values to obtain a +1 of that stat.. so in the old games its two pieces of heart (or a half to confuse things even further ;) or putting it into simpler terms two effort values equals an increase +1 of a certain stat. The question i have then is how the hell can i pinpoint a +1 of a stat to a specific pokemon. What Iv's are related to which pokemon?

Holy carp. It's complicated (or maybe I'm just sleepy?). I have no idea. :o

Hmm hopefully someone will leave something on here and the both of us can grasp this concept! :D

Yeah, but what if you wanted to effort train to get a boost in a specific stat?

I think you're pretty off with your description. :P To begin with, Gen II and Gen I are the exact same, it's Gen III where they started with the "4 EVs equals a stat point".

There is no limit for EVs in Gen I, except for the individual limit of each stat, so you can max every single stat if you just battle enough. The EVs are based on the Pokemon's base stats - say, for example, you defeated a Machop. Your Pokemon would receive 70 EVs in HP, 80 EVs in Attack, 50 EVs in Defense, and 35 EVs in Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. Each of your Pokemon's stats would max out at 65535, but you can max out every stat if you'd like.

As far as how that related to actual stats, there's a formula on Bulbapedia but it mentions that it works at level 100 so I'm not sure if it works anywhere else...so for a level 100 the EVs relate to stats by sqrt(EVs)/4 = Stats.

I can't find, still keep searching on Google/Bing.

Ahh feel so dumb now of course, stats max out at 100 anyway so it doesn't matter. Man feeling dumb right now. Cheers for that Toujours!
