In case you are wondering, the meme is Stephen A. Douglas (the guy who beat Abraham Lincoln in for the Illinois senate 1858 election, but lost to Abraham in the 1860 presidential election). The meme is in reference to the 1854 Kansas-Nebraska Act, which was authored by Douglas, and the train references the bill passed with the act that built a railroad in the northern midwest to Chicago. The act resulted in the Kansas civil war and furthered tensions (especially pissing off the North, who loved the Compromise of 1820 that was undermined by this act). So basically Douglas started a war that foreshadowed the Civil War and created tensions that lead to the Civil War. good job
