The EPP apparently wants the final vote on Article 13 rushed to next week in a rather sneaky attempt to avoid influence from protesters later this month.

The scheduled date is supposed to be during March 25th - 28th, two days after the Europe-wide protests on March 23rd.

I'm honestly disappointed in the lack of coverage around here, but here it is for European users just as concerned about the Copyright Directive's notorious policy as I am, regardless.

    Hi there!

Could you please explain what this Article 13 is a bit more, especially to those who may not be from that part of the world? :)

It's a lengthy topic, but I'll try to explain the best I can.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directive_on_Copyright_in_the_Digital_Single_Market#Article_13

Article 13 is a proposed legislation part of the EU's Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market, an upgraded copyright law for countries part of the European Union such as France, Germany, Ireland, and the UK. It is currently being negotiated.

The aim of Article 13 seems to make websites like YouTube, FaceBook and Twitter liable for copyright infringement. The only way they can avoid liability is to implement upload filters.

This is where the criticism and opposition comes in, as some have labelled it as a "meme ban", since the article is way too vague on the subject of Fair Use.
