On Sept 28, 2006 it was released in Japan. On Apr 22, 2007 it will be released in Canada and the U.S.A. You could always import Diamond or Pearl through Japan.
 
preordering sounds like a good deal. get it a day before 15% of pokemon fans who have not already done so. me being one of them of course... i keep forgetting =/

Um, depending on the retail place (eg. EBGames, Nintendo World, Pokemon Center :) ) you will get a stylus, but it will announce it first, me thinks, before you preorder. SO~

Wait for any announcements, and once they make an announcement from wherever, just preorder or something. Don't worry, you won't look stupid when you preorder a Pokemon game :D
