    hey, sorry if this is the wrong thread, new here, but whats EV and IV?
    I keep hearing people mention them, thanks
     
    EV: Effort Value
    IV: Individual Value

    PC's EV guide is here. EVs may be gained by training your Pokemon against specific Pokemon. For example, if your Pokemon defeats many Starly, or Zubat (which are fast Pokemon), then your Pokemon gains Speed EVs, so overall, your Pokemon becomes faster. This is a basic idea of it all, but it involves some math.

    IVs are hidden values, which range from 0-31 per stat, generated as soon as the egg is received or a Pokemon is caught. So, to get high IVs, you may need to rebreed many times. Also, the highest IV is indicated by the Pokemon's characteristic in its summary page. For example, a Pokemon with "Alert to Sounds" or "Likes to run" has a high speed IV. Breed it and it should pass down its good speed to babies. Generally, babies inherit 2-3 IVs from either parent. This is another basic understanding...
