Okay, I had a Level 100 Breloom (Used all rare candies on it from level 5, it was bred), holding a Macho Brace, it attacked 4 level 2-3 Zigzagoons, and never gained any speed stat. Also, I had a torchic (I had never fed it any rare candies and it was bred), at about level 7, beat 4 Zigzagoons with a Macho Brace and only gained +1 speed stat when it leveled up. Is my game messed up? What did I do wrong? >_<
Edit: This is pokemon Sapphire and I have beaten the Elite 4.

The whole idea of the Macho Brace is that it doubles all EVs apart from Speed, in which it halves. That's why the speed stats were so low compared to your other ones. It's not a glitch, just intentional ^_^

I thought it just lowers your speed in battle, not the EVs. :P I guess I was wrong. Thanks a lot :D It seemed to work at first though, since my Torchic got +3 speed one time with the brace on. Can anyone explain that? I am keeping track of my points, so if what you said is true right now my torchic has 5.5 EV points in speed.
Wait...you can have half an EV point?!? O_o

Actually, your first hunch was right, the Macho Brace only lowers your speed in battle, not the actual Speed stat or EV/IV score or anything. Just because something doesn't automatically gain a bonus upon level up doesn't mean they aren't getting EV there, it's not always noticeable.

But if your pokemon is level 100, doesn't the EV automatically get added to the stat once you get 4 points? Or will it have to gain enough experience to 'grow a level', like if it could gain another level after it was at 100. So what happens with level 100 pokemon? I've never noticed anything before, since I haven't EV trained until now in the games, because I never knew about it.

Well, the EV will get added onto the stat, but to refresh and update the stat points, put the Pokemon in any box, and take it out again (the box trick), otherwise you'll still be at the point in which you started.

Oh okay. I'll do that. Thanks.
I'll just hit myself for being so stupid. >_< Or maybe I'm just ignorant.
I knew I should have tried something like that.
