I'd rather the animals be shot than an innocent child be mauled to death by one of the animals.

This. Although it would have been nice if they used tranquilizers instead.

But some of the animals had the potential to be very dangerous.

I heard about this on another site. Didn't the man looking after the animals have like 30 something animal cruelty charges? If that is true, it seems this whole situation could have been avoided if they had stopped letting him look after the animals sooner.
