Extra extra, read all about it?

I don't really care much about politics and all. Even though I do like watching the news to see what is going on, I personally believe that I am too young for most of the things on the news to affect me.

I take this as a challenge. Let's say you live in the United States, if you don't I am sorry. I hope that someone from your country will challenge you. President Obama initiated an economic stimulus to states. His hope is that the money given to the states will be used to create and save jobs. He is also trying to fix healthcare, and pay teachers more.

Scenario: You live in one of the 50 states. Your mom and dad both work. You dad's job is in jeopardy. If you read the news for your specific state/city; you can have some idea what the economic stimulus money is doing. Like, will it help you dad get his job back. Your mom might also be a teacher, a teacher getting paid only $45,000 a year. Barely enough for a family of four to live the same lifestyle they had lived on two salaries. You'd have to make cuts in your budget. Maybe including not getting as good of insurance or none at all. You get very sick. With the strides Obama is making toward better healthcare, one day you may get taken care of without it costing a ton of money. Those cuts in budget may also affect you, getting new clothes, having a cell phone, having an internet connection, TV might go, food might not be as good.

Everything that is happening "for the people" will affect you in some way. You may not realize it because your youth has blinded you, but you will eventually get it. Don't ever use the excuse "I'm too young" when it comes to politics. You'd be surprised how much you could do.

What exactly can the rabble do but vote?
Since the young among them definitely can't, what can the children do but nothing? Perhaps stay informed at best but seriously?

Hay. I used to post a lot of Political threads here in OC back during the 2008 Election Cycle. So yes people here are quite informed if they wanted too.

But I had to stop after being repped down here: Results confirm Israeli Parliamentary Deadlock. =/
For the threads that I made devolved into flame wars.

So after I stopped posting threads here...the quite more general and entertainment based threads took over~

So yes. Some of our youth is pretty much engaged due to the Internet. :D

The younger people are the next generation. They are the ones who will have the power to vote next. In the younger ages is when the brain is developing ideas and philosophies. If the younger generation is exposed to more news; they can begin to formulate opinions and give them.

I think you bring up one of the saddest things that I find here. The fact that a lot of opinions will be bashed if they are different. I know it is very much like what is in the real world, but why can't we respect each others opinions. Why do negative reps and flames have to be thrown around. Can't we just get along? I wish we could have more discussions about things that actually matter, past cats getting baked and a girl who never grows up. PC's other chat is becoming Readers Digest.

That's what I thought when I stopped doing this. I actually had a long winded post over this issue a while back.

That pretty much summarizes my thoughts~

I dont know if this makes me weird but I actually enjoy watching the news. Anderson Cooper 360 is easily the best news program ever. Anyways... I think keeping up with world news makes me a well rounded person. I get annoyed when my friends are so out of touch with everything that is going on. I mean never mind the rest of the world they barely know whats going on in their own country.

Having much older siblings means that most of the conversations I have are with adults;
Whenever a topic came up that was about current affairs I'd loose the plot and just sit there silent. ^^;

I didn't want to watch the news or read a newspaper etc. so I just subscribed to the BBC headlines feed which worked great.

After a while though it just started getting me down, and about the time all that crap in Gaza kicked off I stopped checking the feed. :/

I still check it occasionally and I can appreciate the 60 Second News aired on BBC Three, but these days I choose to be uniformed.

I stay informed. Heck, a quarter of my life is politics. (other quarters -- sports, school, eenternet)
However I don't agree with half any of most of the stuff Obama's doing.

Spoiler:
But I don't think I watch biased things. I listen from as far right as the extreme Michael Savage to the far left MSNBC.. I think where I fall is a staunch conservative, a little more center then Rush Limbaugh. So, when I watch the news, I really can't tolerate it without turning it off, but I try to to get all of the viewpoints possible. I believe in unbiased news coverage, which is why it's hard for me to watch MSNBC, and listen to Michael Savage, and read the New York Times. So yes, I stay informed.

1 more thing -- I think that people watching only one side (MSNBC, ABC news, Fox News, etc etc) is bad. When people say "I watch CNN everyday" ... ugh. Because I am one who believes CNN is biased. Therefore I think it is needed to hear all sides of the stories even if you disagree with one side.
