I WILL admit that I tried to be kid friendly with the majority of my fics

It makes me sad to think about my little cousin swearing when he was 6. Honestly, it just makes people look uneducated and lacking the brains to say something intelligent.

That's what I hate.

Cheers. People who curse that much just can't think of anything better to say (quoth my dad o.o;;)

I think hearing my little brother say anything (curses, sex, whatever) tops the list of most horriffic things that could happen. He's a great kid, and I hope he stays that way (until marriage, preferably).

Same with my sisters Act~

My fanfics usually have depressing themes...but I rate them appropriately. And I give HUGE warnings if it does contain anything bad. Yes, there is one that has an over amount of swearing...but it's to stress the situation, not to prove that it's good.

And that guy ends up killing a policeman and himself, so see where swearing gets you?

I wish I could, but some of the characters.... they'd lose a lot of their impact if I censored them. I don't cuss. I hate doing it. The only cuss word I say is 'crap' and that's not really considered one. It's just so hard to portray someone as brutish without them saying brutish things.

To prove my point (and to do some shameless advertising), read chapter 2 of my fanfiction. It's the only chapter rated R due to the amount of swearing from one of the characters. Heavy Rain; you'll find it in my sig.

So you're saying that your fics aren't kid friendly but you'd never swear or anything >_>;

*confuzzled*

It's basically. I dislike swearing, myself, and I'd never do it, but I write it so that people can get a better feel of the characters. Because while I may not swear, other people do. Because characters are people to me, there's no reason to limit them by my own moral restraints. Let them be who they are, because they're not me.

Ok, I get it~

And I agree XD How could I put in truly vile villians if they were based on me? 0=)

I'll admit to curing when I'm very aggrivated (anyone who reads my LJ knows that), but otherwise the worst I say is 'crap'.

But yeah, I have characters also who will saywhatever. Cause let's face it, of the 90 people in my class, only five or six will admit to thinking cursing is low and degrading.

I agree with all of that.

Has anyone else noticed that Reggie Fils-Aime swears? ._. It really bugs me. Makes him look REALLY unprofessional.

OK, you have a point about keeping the innocence of 5-year olds..... I mean, those kindergarteners who spout off the F-word I mentioned earlier, they may not be the best example because they were raised by the kind of friggin lazy parents who let their television babysit them and go off blaming Grand Theft Auto everytime something goes wrong (not a fan of GTA, but I hate those parents who blame it without looking at the M-rating that's clearly on the package, or parents who buy a violent game for their kid who obviously had a mental problem in the place). However, if they are above the age of 12 and still protecting their innocence (such is sadly the case with some of those d*mned soccer moms out there), then those parents have a real serious problem with exposing kids to reality.

My point was, you're thinking people would be traumatized by "sex", but you know what? Say it all you wish, but I have personally never seen anyone below the age of 10 on a forum. Hell, people below the age of 14 are a rarity from what I've seen. And if there is a 7-year old wandering around here, it's likely to be the F-word spouter whose innocence was already destroyed as a result of lazy parenting and could probably get away with walking into a strip-joint with such lack of supervision (come on, if any anti-cursing parent were to take a few glimpses at a forum like this beforehand, or almost any anime/game-based site for that matter, do you think they'd want their child looking at it? Would they even want their child involved in cyber communications at all?).

A 12-year-old isn't a 'child' anymore. Believe me, I know many of them... that's seventh grade. That's when the boys stop having cooties and cliques start to form and the like... it's a coming-of-age time, to be sure.

It gets quite sad to see someone sheltered into their teens (I've seen that as well, believe me), but I think the key is finding a happy medium.

As for the second part... I saw an eight- and nine-year-old here the other day, and they definiteely weren't spouting any dirty slang. o.o;;

I invited my sister to a forum. She was 9 at the time. Don't be so quick to lay blame to cussing as the result of lazy parenting. I have a step-father who cusses, yet I don't. Remember, if one person cusses, it just reaffirms the thought that it's alright. It IS possible that a person starts cussing because the people around him/her were cussing. Therefore this forum, which is child-friendly, doesn't condone cussing at all. Regardless of whether a child is still innocent or not, a person should still be a good example around him/her.

I agree that video games have little bearing on life. I'm a bit biased though. It is indeed the fault of lazy parenting when kids go awry.

And sex in itself is not the tramatizing thing. It's the way media has twisted it. Sex was a gift from God that has been hammered into an idealistic society hell bent in creating "I look sexy" barbie.

But, this is the fanfic lounge, so I shall not go into my long debates here ^^;

True. Usually those parents who 'can't control their kid anymore' never tried in the first place.

You are like my new hero xD

=D I'm just a Moral Crusader XD

Oh please. Sex is not a gift of god. It's one of those things that people and animals do, like eating and sleeping. I hate the way people glorify sex to be this wonderful and/or dirty thing. I wish sex wasn't treated as something so taboo. The interesting thing about human sex (and a few animals like bonobos) is that it is used for purposes other than procreation, like pleasure and power (rape).

Regardless of what individual beliefs regarding the purpose of sex in life, it's not something good to shove on little kids. Aside, you can be Christian, Budduhist, Aetheist, or Muslim, but premarital sex when you're not emotionally ready = depression in most cases. And anyone who thinks a relationship can be based off sex alone and be happy... ::kicks pop culture::

Back on uncontroversial stuff, has anyone ever found themselves correcting grammar and such outside the fanfiction forum beside me?

I totally agree with Act. Depression is not good =X

We need to get back on track unfortunetaly, so, Has your family influenced your fanfics?

On the subject of swearing:
It's mainly my nationality, but I kinda twitch when I read the f- and s-words. In Icelandic, we have a very nice and colorful collection of swear words, but every single one of them is something only a hardcore Christian at the most would ever find offensive (basically, they worst ones mean "hell" or "Satan", and the others just mean like "bag of wool" or something). People rant on about everybody listening to swear words every day, but I'm not brought up with hearing words that I find even remotely offensive in my language at all, so yeah. You're assuming everybody speaks English here.

On the subject of correcting grammar:
I'm a spelling nazi. Not so much a grammar one, but in like IM conversations I automatically correct all "definately"s and "existance"s. I'm annoying.

On the subject of family influencing fics:
My family hasn't really influenced mine, no, unless I'm forgetting something. One character in my fic is *very loosely* based on my best friend, though.
