Fear the Janitor [UU RMT]

    I remember starting to play UU a month or two ago. I built this extremely poor team (note: that's not the one I am posting ;) ) and entered it in one of the smogon UU tours. Haha. Needless to say I got my butt kicked and good. But after that, I started trying to really put some thought into my team-building, and that's how team End Game was born.

    Monster (Steelix) (M) @ Iron Ball
    Ability: Rock Head
    EVs: 252 HP/4 Atk/252 SDef
    Sassy nature (+SDef, -Spd)
    - Earthquake
    - Stealth Rock
    - Roar
    - Gyro Ball

    Defensive leads are uncommon, but they certainly have their merits. This guy here starts the game off setting up rocks, which the rest of my team loves to have on the opponent's side. Steelix doesn't like taunters, but most leads who would bother taunting on the first turn like Electrode absolutely hate one of Steely's two attacks. Other than that, Steelix is very important to roar out some of the pokemon my opponent is hiding in the shadows. Part of the team's strategy is to identify and kill priority users and those faster than base 95 speed so Yanmega (down at the bottom) has an easy time cleaning up during the End Game (hence the team name), and thus knowing what's in the opponent's team is priceless for me. Iron ball is to boost gyro ball and to punish pokes who think they can trick a choice item onto steelix for free. Milotic and Mismagius cover his weaknesses of fire, water, fighting, and ground.

    Lulz. Shiney Milotic looks like an old man with those grayish looking eyebrows doesn't he? Anyways, he's there for dealing strong special damage when necessary. Specs STAB Hydro pump puts a huge dent in almost everything except 4x resists and, of course, water absorbers. The set is sadly walled somewhat by lanturn, but lanturn's low defenses and the lack of a reliable recovery move mean it usually doesn't survive for long anyways against the rest of my team. This guy is great for absorbing status if there's no one else to do so, and spreading some of his own with hypnosis. It makes it incredibly easy to take out milotic's counters which opens it up for a bit of a mini-sweep. Steelix covers her electric weakness...but grass types can be a bit of a problem. Good thing Shaymin-L isn't UU anymore, at least for the time being.

    Miss Mage (Mismagius) (F) @ Lum Berry
    Ability: Levitate
    EVs: 48 HP/252 Spd/208 SAtk
    Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
    - Calm Mind

    Ahh Mismagius; easily my favorite UU pokemon. A lot of the team's strategy rests on her shoulders. I definitely feel the lack of substitute, but taunt seems to be a greater asset to my team especially since a lot of the things that come in on her expecting to wall and set up, get taunted before they can boost their stats. It also lets mismagius end up killing chansey and clefable, or if she doesn't have enough boosts or they switch out, it lets her get some more CMs. She really is a beast when she can set up a bit, and she usually gets to as a surprise taunt forces a lot of switches (most expect taunt to only exist on perish trapping Magius's to block phazing). I'm still considering giving her back her substitute, because taunt was originally only for clefable (to stop encore) and now that I added hitmontop I have him to deal with it. The surprise factor is still useful, though. Finally, Steelix and Absol can cover her back by absorbing attacks she's weak to.

    I used to despise using Absol due to his inability to switch into, well, anything, but he's proven extremely useful recently. Night slash combined with super luck gives absol a whopping 25% to crit, which means it crits as often as a poke would get FP. And judging from what happens to me when I'm paralyzed, that should be a lot. A single swords dance raises his attack into inconceivable heights, and at that point sucker punch will OHKO or severely damage just about anyone who doesn't resist it. Night slash is also useful, even thought it's less powerful, so I don't get foiled by switches or substitutes. His fighting and bug weaknesses are covered by Mismagius, though with his crap defenses his weaknesses don't really matter much.

    Spinny (Hitmontop) (M) @ Life Orb
    Ability: Technician
    EVs: 72 HP/252 Atk/184 Spd
    Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Fake Out
    - Mach Punch
    - Close Combat
    - Bullet Punch

    Priority user to the max. I love his defenses but his low speed is a bit off-putting when up against another priority user. At any rate, three priority moves might seem like overkill, but Bullet Punch is amazing when up against a faster ghost or someone who resists mach punch and close combat. This guy is useful for revenge killing and killing fast pokes who would otherwise outspeed Yanmega before he gets a speed boost. Hitmontop also likes to destroy steels and others who would resist yanmegas STAB moves. Psychics meet Absol and fliers meet Steelix. I'm kind of looking for a faster priority user to replace this guy so I can more easily kill other priority users.

    Ability: Speed Boost
    EVs: 130 Def/126 Spd/252 SAtk
    Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

    Here he is, the Janitor. He is there to pull off a late-game sweep to turn late game into end-game. You would expect late-game yanmega to have tinted lens, but no! Speed boost proves an even greater asset to my late-game yanmega since the rest of the pokes on the team work to get rid of priority users, steels, and fast pokes hopefully before he ever comes out. After he pulls off one speed boost, he is usually a beast because nobody can outspeed him without a scarf (bar, possibly, electrode...but who uses him late game anyways?) and if he gets a sub up on the switch, well, you can guess the rest. I decided to use a non-dividable-by-4 speed because I wanted to use reversal to kill any surprise chanseys, etc. or as a last resort to at least deal damage to anything which resists both STAB moves. Thus if I either switch in twice to stealth rocks, or switch in once and sub twice, etc. I go down to just 1 hp which means reversal gets a ridiculous 200 bp. If he can do this successfully with a few speed boosts under his belt, then it's serious good game from there.

    I'm not sure if Steelix would be a good lead for your team considering the the common leads now especially if a fast sleep inducer is the opponent's lead pokemon. You might consider using Yanmega as your lead or something different.

    On your Hitmontop, I'd probably would use choice band instead of life orb since you want to use it as a revenge killer.

    I've been considering the use of a different lead for a while now, but I can't figure one out who would go with the rest of my team. The reason I chose Steelix is because it can both set up stealth rocks, take a hit while doing so, and roar out any dangerous set-up leads like Bellyzard. Steelix instead of Registeel only because Steelix has access to Gyro ball in combination with iron ball, and can still have roar to get rid of any magnet pull pokes trying to trap and kill it. He can also switch in on most Chansey and be immune to both toxic and twave. Admittedly though his low speed and susceptibility to sleep are not good things...but I'm not sure how exactly to replace him if I end up doing so.

    The way the team was constructed, Yanmega was meant to come around late game and clean up (hence his name "Janitor" XD lol). Substitute or take SR damage until at one percent, then sweep whoever is left in the team. But if you have another idea for a good lead, please let me know =]

    As for hitmontop, I will try the choice band, but I think he's a little more useful being able to use both fake out and then mach/bullet punch...I'll see how the choice band goes, though.

    Hypnosis on a choice specs milotic isnt the best idea. try this:

Lantern like you said. Also you keep the flying coverage and who cares about water that badly that you NEED Hp Electric. Also you can still hit DD Lapras as hard as an Hp Electric

    For Milotic I usually go with this:

    252 HP / 240 Def / 16 SpA @ Leftovers [Modest Nature]
    ~ Surf
    ~ Sleep Talk
    ~ Rest
    ~ Ice Beam

    When your HP gets low, use Rest, which activates Marvel Scale and restores your HP. Then just attack with Sleep Talk. Leftovers is there also to restore your health.

    ... just an idea.

    I know this post was deleted, but I'd just like to respond to it regardless. The flame orb thing is obvious, but the reason I want HP electric is quite simply for the incredible coverate it provides. With it, I can wall and beat bulky waters (assuming they don't also have hp electric), including most significantly slowbro and other milotic. I really don't care about lanturn, because he is incredibly weak and his low defenses won't hold up for very long against, well, anyone. Also, Hypnosis is there purely for the surprise factor; if it hits, one of milotic's counters falls asleep and although I have to switch out, so do they (or otherwise they lose a turn to sleep) so my switch is essentially free.

    Your Milotic set is good fireheart, but I don't really see a reason to change mine...choice specs seems to support my team well, and almost nobody expects it. ^_^
     
    Actually, Lanturn is a good counter to most waters since they can't really touch him and he can just destroy them with STAB Thunderbolts. Not to mention, his high HP + acceptable SpD make him a good special sponge. Heck, even most Electrics can't lay a finger on him without HP Grass.

    That is true, I just figure just about anyone (especially Mismagius) can take hits from him and deal stronger ones back. When I said "his low defenses won't hold up for very long against, well, anyone," I really meant anyone but milotic (and steelix). =]
