Feedback, Questions, & Suggesting

Other Trivia is a big section, and it's not always so easy to listen/hear to the voices of members when it comes to game/event ideas and the rules. So with this thread, Peachy and I hope you be able to hear more of your voices, and respond in the best way possible!

Guidelines

  • Abide to PokeCommunity's Rules
  • This is not a game. This is a discussion thread to discuss way to improve Other Trivia.
  • Do not go off-topic. This is strictly for Questions, Comments, and Discussing suggestions.

Feedback

Is there something that Netto and I should do to make our modding better? Have feedback to a suggestion that has been posted here? This thread isn't just for the member giving the suggestion to get feedback from the mods, but to also receive feedback and the opinions of other members as well. We would love to receive as much feedback as possible, to hear the voices from everyone.

Questions

Have something on your mind that is bothering you? Have a thread idea but not sure to post it? Go ahead and ask us any questions relating to Other Trivia. Netto Azure and I will do out best to answer them as quickly and as best as possible. If you have any questions about this thread itself, so ahead and ask here as well.

Suggesting

This can go from suggestion an event, to suggestion an edit to a rule. Once you post your suggestion, then both the mods and other members can discuss it, for it to come to a proper conclusion. Please have the suggestions be within the boundaries of the rules. If you have to ask about removing the four words per post rule, KNOW THIS: THE ANSWER IS A RESOUNDING NO. THIS IS A PC RULE, NOT JUST AN OTHER TRIVIA RULE.

Other Trivia Rules

The Four-Word Rule

This is one of the most ignored rules at PC. And it's an important one.

In other words, all posts must contain AT LEAST FOUR WORDS per posts, not including character min. bypass.
Three word posts will not do. Numbers and smilies don't count as words. Make it four words + and worthwhile, please.

Character Minimum Bypass

Another ignored and important rule. Other Trivia is getting worse. Other Trivia is getting worse at WHAT? Even if the header's there, you should still specify.

Ever tried to make a post under 24 characters long and gotten a popup message saying it's not long enough? That means your post is too short! Yet people constantly bypass with characters - e.g. exclamations marks and ones. Bypassing is putting in an offtopic message to make the post longer so it will be accepted. Yes, this counts as spamming. Andy repetitive offencses will be warned. Report them, people! I see no need for the spaces between the offense and report sentences.

Example:
........................
(character limit)
*kills character limit*

Both bypassings [four words and character limit] will be infracted with 2 points that will last for two weeks upon repetition. You should probably put the examples in quotes or divvy them up with "---" or something to show they're separate.

The Revival Rule

Please refrain from posting in threads that haven't been posted in during the last 30 days. If a thread is too old, make a new one. Constant revival [five times or more] will be infracted with 2 points that will last for two weeks. Again, the extra space was unnecessary.

No Chat Threads:

There is already the Daily Chit-Chat thread in Other Chat for random discussions. Exceptions would be the three counting threads: DLTMSA, TCTI, and WOFZ.

No More Than Three Active Counting Games At a Time:

Most counting games eventually become chat threads with numbers, of which there are already too many. So, there needs to be a cap on how many counting threads can exist at once. Only when one of the active threads does not get a post in 30 days can another counting thread be made.

Rating Games

Just a short note: Don't bypass. In rating games like "Rate the Signature of the User Above", put the rating out of ten, and then a short constructive critiscism.

Example:
5/10

Your pic is too blurry and it ruins it.

Also, don't go around and post things like "I already rated yours before, [insert same rating here].". If you already have rated the user's Signature/Avatar/Theme/etc. before, just wait for someone else to post!

Guessing Games

When creating a guessing game, please put thought into them.
Games like "Guess how old I am", are pointless, as they will come to an end pretty quickly, and will be closed. If you feel the urge to create a guessing game, please think of something that won't end after 10 posts. Unnecessary space again.

Duplicates

As with the revival rule;, don't make threads that already exist and are still active. Before creating games please search for existing and active threads. STILL the extra unnecessary space.

No Going Off-Topic (Now reworded):

(This rule is already here, but I'd like to reword it a bit).

This may be the Other Trivia forum, but the threads have specific topics that need to be adhered to as well. If there are comments you'd like to make about another person's post, use Visitor Messages on that member's profile or the Post Comment feature of that same post. If it's absolutely necessary that you need to make a post in the thread, then include something relevant to the game. Take this The One Above exchange, for example:

^ (Jill) has an avatar from a TV show, but I don't know which TV show specifically.

^ has an avatar that features Blaziken.

My avatar is from The Colbert Report, by the way.

Copy+Paste (The One Above)

You cannot copy and paste posts. By that, I mean you can't copy + paste "^ is the poster above this post" or whatever the new thing is. The idea of The One Above is to get to know other members or give some information about them, not just repeat yourself over and over.

The games in OT are here for you to make friends and get to know each other better;, not for you to just post in. Plus, you're not gaining anything from just posting mindlessly.

Other

Have some common sense. Abide by all the normal PokeCommunity rules.
Remember if you see any posts that break rules, report them! Please do not mini-mod.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or another member of the higher-staff and we'll be happy to help you.

Remember to have a good time and enjoy yourself! Thank you guys. :D

You don't have to pay much attention to the grammar changes, but please at least look at the comments.

SUGGESTIONS:

Get WOFZ stickied. It's the only counting thread not up there.

And while you're at it, what's the point of having the "What are you listening to" thread stickied when similar threads (like "The Last 10 Visitors" thread, for example) won't be? And to have all of them stickied is a bit pointless.

Yeah. I'll probably sticky that thread soon.

The 'What are you listening to' thread was a sticky in the first place because there was a problem with several of the thread being posted in the 'Other Entertainment' section. It was there for a bit, it was brought back to Other Trivia (and stickied so it's easier to find) because people weren't obeying the rules that was posted while it was over in Other Entertainment.

So... it was in order to try to cut down on the duplication of that thread.

I'd actually say... Well.... Sticky the Nightclub, considering how big it's gotten.

Oh, and... Err...

How do I play this game? I'm sorta lost...

While the Nightclub is big, so is 'The One Above' and such. If we stickied every big thread there is, then half of the first page would be stickies. I'll probably stick WOFZ because it's one of the three 'counting/chatting' threads, and probably 'What are you listening to' for the reasons above, but that's it.

I still contend that the Nightclub be sticked if it's chat function is to be downplayed.
Now I strongly disagree that the Nightclub shouldn't be allowed some chatter, it can be counted as dialogue within the RP...as long as you're DOING SOMETHING in your post as well.

Like this:
bad post said:
So like I herd you liek mudkips
good post said:
*Sits at bar, orders a drink* So, I herd u liek mudkips *slapped*

If people insist on just sipping their drink and talking, don't be upset, that's just how the place works sometimes, it can't always be zany and insane in there. If someone keeps doing just that and isn't participating, just warn the user, not the thread.

Don't know if that will downplay the chatting, or up the chatting as the other three 'chatting' threads will also be stickied. If it's down below with the other games (aka not chatting threads), then perhaps more people would think of it as a game.

3. The Nightclub's definition of Out-Of-Character (OOC) is probably a bit different than most. (I wouldn't know, I don't RP.) We say that one is going OOC when one discusses things like PC, signatures, avatars, VMs, PMs, and modship. Discussing Real Life (What I Did Today kinds of things) are generally frowned upon, although one may choose to implement those things in one's post.
Ex. I've had a cold for awhile. or I bought this DVD last night, anyone want to watch?
If one finds the one must say something about another's signature or suchlike, one may implement brackets [ ] or parentheses ( ) to comment.
Ex. [Your avatar is so cute!]

Oh. What do I see here? Something that says that is you wish, you can implement what you have done in real life, and such questions as you used in your example as part of your Nightclub post. What I see from this one sentence is that as long as it's something that can be implemented into NightClub things (such as discussion of Mudkips and such), then go head. However, I cannot see how PC things, such as Avatars and signatures would even exist in NightClub, and thus should be put in brackets to avoid trouble.

Who says that PC can't exist within the realm of the nightclub?

Also I contend that the RP is indeed informal. Using RP conventions for OOC is just counter to the atmosphere. Treat anything outside of action marks like "*runs*" as dialogue and let well enough alone...unless the poster is being non-participative...then take mod action as you would on someone who posted "Omg hai <filler filler filler>". xD

Now of course using judgment to determine if the dialogue is contributing to the discussion is acceptable...but why go beyond that? The Nightclub is already established, and I see no reason it shouldn't be afforded the same protections that TCTI can have if a knockoff of DLTMSA...(Yes I am referring to WOFZ) can be stickied. :<

Maybe if people in the NightClub were on laptops and browsing PC from there, buuuut, I don't see how people can be wandering around with signatures and avatars.

TCTI, DLTMSA, WOFZ: stickied as they are our three counting/chatting threads. This is to avoid more from popping up.
What are you Listening to: This was originally stickied in order to keep people from making it on a whim over in Other Entertainment.
Then we have our rules, and this thread. That's a lot of stickies. If we add popular games to it, then it'll just be worse, and it wouldn't look good.

I don't think WOFZ needs to be sticked when DLTMSA exists with essentially an identical ruleset, only difference is who can reset the count. :<

But how is it fair for the top 3 counting class threads to be sticked and not include a single good non-counting game or thread to level the playing field. Counting threads shouldn't get all the attention all the time. :<

I never said Every popular thread. :<

Just one that ISN'T a counting thread. There's always room for keeping few stickies up as an understandable reason but meh. That's why I don't think that every popular counting thread need be sticked too. :<

'What did you last listen to' may or may not be restickied.

I'll leave the rest to Netto, or have some other members argue discuss this for me, as I have now seen the light and I don't like seeing more than four stickies in a forum. Just think, even if we had a different game thread stickied, then we would have five or six. Then add PPC, and then we would have seven. Seven stickies don't look too pleasing, and distracts members from seeing the other games below.

Confusing? I'll put this simple: No more stickies. :)

...Fair 'nuff as long as WOFZ doesn't get stickied. I see no point for it to be stuck if two such counting threads are, and that's about half or more of the counting threads active in OT at the moment.

Exactly. Would it be possible to drop DLTMSA and perhaps rotate other popular threads in it's place? Give each thread a week/month on sticky, unstick it, stick another popular and active thread for a while. Simple, clean and fair. Counting threads would be able to fall out naturally and new ones could be allowed to flourish...making the 3 counting thread rule a bit more fair. :>

...It is not that much work. Geez, you don't have to change it weekly. XD

Monthly or Quarterly is fine, I just think it's unfair that 2/3 counting threads get protected from inevitably dying. By rotating other popular threads into that one slot, you can bolster activity to those threads and let threads that need the perk up. Even popular threads die. ><
