[REEL DEEL suggestion time]

What would be fun would be encouraging immigrants members that don't hang here often to come to OT.
Seeing as some places here tend to look a lot like sorts of conversation clubs where newcomers have difficulties in feeling they're part of it all. Because I've been there. Now I'm just part of the problem.

Something like a newcomer thread feels too exaggerated, and I know this is something most of the forums have problems with, but does anyone have thoughts on this matter?

There's always advertising via sigs. and blog entries, though who knows how many people look into those anyways...

Something else I'm guilty of is criticizing newcomers for making a mistake. So one way to make people feel welcome is rather than criticize them on their mistakes, tell them politely what they did wrong and say that everyone makes mistakes or something like that ^_^

I dunno, honestly ><; I'm with you on this idea, though.

We seem to still have this problem with the whole 'segregation' deal, and The Boys/Girls thread kind of shows, as since it was a new thread, it looks like those who were too intimidated by the bigger threads flocked over there instead. If only there was a way to show them that the other threads aren't as intimidating as they think they are. Since so many of us also post in the Boys/Girls thread (like Rossu-Pie), perhaps we can encourage them to post in other places as well. :)

And yes, I'm all for the signature idea. Maybe we add something else other then the Prettiest Profile Contest, it can help as well. I'm all for any ideas.

*Mod hat on*

All points are duly noted.

1.) This thread will not be closed down just because of opinions that people do not agree with.
2.) I apologize if the Nightclub was closed down, but it was a member who wanted it closed not us.
3.) If you guys want to chat that badly, we have more than enough counting threads and another one in OC. There's Visitor Messages, Instant Messaging, Twitter, FaceBook, etc.

As you guys know, I am a Social Democrat politically, I do not approve of censorship most of the time. But moderation for the sake of facilitating civilized discussion is justified. Visit any other poorly moderated/unmoderated forums out there and you will understand what I mean.

As for the segregation deal, I approve of pilot projects here in OT.

Any other questions can be posted here, by VM, or PM.

I have no idea where that'll be placed in my signature, but that's an idea! I like it. :3 Maybe make a variety of 'em, so we can see about getting them to fit into as many types of signatures as possible. :3 Like for mine, a 'bar' would probably work better. XD

Then perhaps after we get a few of 'em, we can stick them somewhere so people can access them.

and here we can see how differently Netto and I work.

Yes you do have too much time on your hands.

I like it. Though I'd probably not put something like that in my sig. XD; /blog entry, maybe, but then the text would have to be bigger

Hi. *waves*

For the record, and so future complainers can be linked here, I chose to ask that The Nightclub be closed for a variety of reasons.

First, because of a dramatic drop in activity. Hardly any of the regulars continued to post in the thread, and it simply was not attracting new people.

Second, because of an increase in spam. Despite the reworking of OT's rules, and my own reworking of The Nightclub's rules, guidelines, and gameplay if you will, people continued to break the rules and spam the place up. Tara said at one point she had been getting continuous reports of spam despite everything, and I myself was just fed up at what the people were doing.

Third, because the basic idea of the Nightclub was not being adhered to. What I mean is that the fun and wild spirit of the original Nightclub had not transferred to the new, and that spirit is what had made it easy to abide by the rules back in the day. Why the idea was not being fulfilled is something I have many ideas on, but not something I shall go into here.

On a member-to-member note: Pachy, you have no right to complain about the Nightclub's closure, as you posted there less than Ros did. Perhaps if you had posted more and tried to save the place as it was deteriorating, you would have a right to complain, but that didn't happen now did it?

Peaches, I honestly don't think the segregation is an issue we should worry about. Let people post where they feel comfortable. I'm not saying you shouldn't try to make the bigger threads easier to integrate into, but you have to take into account how many of us groan and facepalm at n00bs...because, truly, we were just as bad and we don't like the reminder.

That factor will never honestly go away, but if you manage to get everyone there somehow tone that down a lot it might help.

Honestly there are a LOT of inside jokes on PC that on the surface, look rather insulting, but the people on the 'inside' of the joke know it's harmless.
Not to mention that so many of us, myself included, just groan about noobs who are trying to make friends. You know what I'm talking about.

*Sigh* At least you're a darn sight more decisive and respectable. Not that BP isn't respectable, just that....somehow...I don't quite agree with the style.

...FYI, I did try to save the thread from your ridiculously unnecessary rule changes and re-branding. You should remember that was the reason why I got angry and quit posting. Mostly because between you and Tara, you were breaking the atmosphere the nightclub had. :/

As for when I was a regular, it wasn't spammy then...I jumped ship before it got worse because I knew it was headed south, but I feel like that was because the new rules essentially rehashed it into something it wasn't. You scared off the regulars mostly BECAUSE of those rule changes and all.

Mods:
That being said, since when did the Original Poster's wish to close the thread become the only reason you needed to close a thread anyway? Why couldn't you just simply have let the thread die organically by falling off the bottom of the list if it was dying? :/

Was it seriously that spammy, or was it simply the result of overpatrolling?

Would you hang out somewhere cops were always driving by as if you were doing something wrong? :/

Excuse me, but the "atmosphere" you speak of was people lazily chatting and doing nothing relevant to the actual game at hand. If you don't recall, the original Nightclub was focused around the game itself and not the social interactions between members. That is why the original was as fun as it was, and why the remade Nightclub never was. You never tried to save it. You tried to make everyone conform to your own ideas.

Oh, yes, go ahead and place the blame on people trying to change it for the better. You "knew" this, you "felt" that. It's all our fault that a thread took a turn for the worse. You neglect to see that the club was dying even before the rule changes were even first brought up. You disdain to think that the actions taken, which you don't approve of, were for the better.

In case you didn't see the last five or so pages of the Nightclub pre-closing: It was spammy. It was useless. It was worthless to keep around. It needed to be taken down before it became a pit of despair, ruining the good name it once had.

You fail to see anything other than your own way, and refuse to change your opinions. You need to grow up and face the fact of the matter, which is that You Are Not Always In The Right. I'm not saying that staff or anyone else is always in the right either, but my god stop acting like you always are.

Tara, Netto: Sorry for flipping out.

Not that BP isn't respectable, just that....somehow...I don't quite agree with the style.
This is probably due to the fact that I don't sound as modly as Netto. Doesn't surprise me, since he's a mod on two forums, and has been a mod much longer than I. As I continue to grow, my 'structure' will probably change. :)

Not to mention that so many of us, myself included, just groan about noobs who are trying to make friends. You know what I'm talking about.
Then why are you here? The Trivia sections tend to be places where noobs head towards first when they first join a forum. I know this from experience, when I spent my time in the 'SPAM' part of my first forum. While you do have a point, it just proves that all I can really do is urge those to be more friendly, and also to show those new to forums/this sections that any thread in the Trivia sections (including the big scary stickies) will welcome them. Not just new thread that arise from the surface.

If I remember correctly, Anna spoke to the other regulars in regards of its closing. And to be honest... I don't see what's the problem, especially if they didn't disagree with it.

It's okay Anna. But perhaps you guys might be able to continue through PM or something, if it continues to relate to the Nightclub.

Honest suggestion coming through:

I've noticed new threads tend to die if the rules of the game are too complicated or difficult for newcomers to understand. (Poor wording, ect, ect,)

Anyways I thought it might be possible to cover this in the rules thread. Not with a rule against that perse, but perhaps a guide to new thread creators on how to make sure they don't word the rules in their first post too unclearly. Ideas on what makes a thread's rules here in OT are welcomed.

I have a question.

There used to be a game thread here called Vending Machine, but it was closed due to inactivity. There is a similar thread over in the Pokemon Trivia section known as the Pokemon Vending Machine. Would it be alright to open a new Vending Machine thread?
I was curious if such a thing is allowed since there is a Pokemon Vending machine in Pokemon Trivia.

I'm not sure how much a guide will help. This is a place where newbies tend to go anyways, so I'm not sure if they'll take heed of the guide in the rules before posting in the first place.

Yeah, that's fine mew_nani. As you can see, there is both a 'Ban the person above you' in both Pokemon Trivia and Other Trivia. Having the 'same game' in both areas is perfectly okay, because technically they're not the same game (Pokemon Trivia's has to be Pokemon related, after all). :]

Alright then. Thank you. :)
