Fighting Games!

I'm inclined to believe the theory that Jin and Asuka are cousins.

I guess it's possible.. hopefully in Tekken 6 they'll reveal more

I'm just wondering, has anybody else seen the stereotypes in the characters across games? I'll give an example...

The Token Chinese Girl

Ling Xiaoyu - Tekken
Chun Li - Street Fighter
Lei Fang - Dead or Alive
Lai Pan - Virtua Fighter
Chai Xianghua - Soul Calibur

The Bruce Lee clone
Forest Law and Martial Law - Tekken
Maxi - Suol Calibur (perhaps this is a stretch)
Jan Lee - Dead or Alive

I'm not sure if there is one in Street Fighter...

Just an observation....

ooo awesome. a long time a go i was a part of the street fighter fan club that was here. my primary game is capcom vs. snk 2. it's great because it has a ton of characters, it's pretty well balanced, the moves aren't rediculous like the marvel vs. capcom series, and all the characters are real fighters (not like some in marvel vs. capcom... that cactus guy... don't get me wrong, i use him, but he's just weird). so, in order along with my chars!:
1) c vs. snk 2: i'll either go with an L4 ken (in yellow outfit), or ken, yuri (with L2 on each) or ken with 2, yuri and iori with 1.
2) street fighter alpha 3: ken (with yellow outfit of course)
3) guilty gear XX: this game is awesome. my friend has it. i'd never played before but i won my first 20 matches (in a row) with may (the little pirate girl).
4) marvel vs. capcom 2: i didn't used to like this game much, but last time at the arcade i set a high score, so i like it better now. i was cheap and used ryu/ken/cactus guy.
i prefer 2D to 3D by a huge margin... but i've played a few 3D fighters, and i can't say that i dislike them
1) soul calibur 2: i use talim becuause she's awesome
2) tekken 3: (it's the only tekken game i've managed to beat... i'm not good at tekken, but i do enjoy it) i used lei.
and that about does it... i play capcom vs. snk 2 every day. i'd like to think that i know how to use ken better than pretty much anybody else does, but i'd probably be lying to myself... if you guys like fighters, you should go to www.fightersgeneration.com and take their quiz to see what kind of fighter you are (it's located in the features part on the left hand column) i'm ken *yessssss*

oh, thanks for the tip...

I have another one..

Liu Kang - Mortal Kombat

Funny you should mention stereotypes. For my doujinshii Chousenshi Densetsu, there's a team of fighters named Team Battler that is made up of fighting game stereotypes:

Sho - The leader, a total ripoff of the Ansatsuken fighters (his name is even Sho, which, together with Ryu and Ken, makes up the name Sho Ryuken, or Rising Dragon Fist)
Brian - A generic African-American boxer, just like M. Bison (AKA Balrog in America) and Michael Max.
Bob - A street fighter, directly ripped off from Joe from Street Fighter 1.
Wataa Gai - A Jeet Kune Do-using guy from Hong Kong, more based on Fei Long than anyone else.

Dammit! I say Smash melee as well, only after 50 other kids already have. Don't I sound unoriginal.

Street Fighter for me, they have been giving us the most fighitng games in the last decade but nowadays capcom seems to be relying heavily on rehashes and recycled sprites... (eg Capcom Fighting Evolution)

Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike is arguably the most balanced 2D fighter ever released (not trying to sound like a fanboy, but its true if you have ever played it).

I don't understand why Capcom recycles their sprites so much. It's starting to get irritating. I'll keep playing the games though. I've read that each of the characters in King of Fighters XI is getting a new look, though. That'll be nice.

I have a question : How many Street Fighter games are there now?

I've kinda lost count..

Funny characters, by the way , The S...

Just cause I'm bored.. I'm going to continue my list of stereotypes.. feel free to add!

The American (hehe aren't I original?)
Johnny Cage - Mortal Kombat
Guile - Street Fighter
Paul Phoneix- Tekken
Jacky Byrant - Virtua Fighter

Let's see, just off of the top of my head...

Street Fighter, Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter II Championship Edition, Street Fighter II Special Championship Edition, Super Street Fighter II, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival, Super Street Fighter II Turbo for Matching Service, Hyper Street Fighter II: Anniversary Edition, Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper, Street Fighter Alpha 3 for Matching Service, Street Fighter III, Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike.

I'm positive I've missed about a dozen, but how much is that up there!

*counts*

19! wow! I never knew that there were so many!

Continuing my steroptypes.. Todays is..

The Ninja! (There are alot, I know, You'll see what I'm talking about)

Scorpian, Reptile, Sub-zero (Mortal Kombat)
Kage - Maru (Virtua Fighter)

There's also one in Dead or ALive 4 now, I don't know what his name is...

There's bound to be more... I just can't think of any....

Let's not forget Street Fighter EX, EX2 AND EX3 XD

I've been playing 3rd strike a lot lately,... I think I'm tournament ready with my Ken and my Yang XD

Stupid me. I just got SFEX3 last week, too.

As for a ninja now being in DOA4... there's always been ninja in DOA. Hayabusa Ryu and Hayate/Ein. Plus there's the kunoichi Kasumi and Ayane.

Ooh, there's another! Kunoichi!

Kasumi/Ayane - DOA
Shiranui Mai - Fatal Fury/King of Fighters
Aska/April - TMNT Tournament Fighters (SNES and Genesis versions, respectively)
Ibuki - Street Fighter

I'm not a big fighting game fan. Although, I do enjoy seeing others play fighting games. However, I do have some favorites.

First of, I love the Mortal Kombat games. Always have since the first time I performed a Fatality. ^^

I also enjoy the Tekken games. I've played a bunch of Tekken 4 a while back.

But... out of all of those games... I'll always remain loyal to the Battle Arena Toshinden games. Those games were the #1 reason I got a PlayStation back in 1997. And I was pretty good at Toshinden also. ^^

lol, yeah, i know... what I meant was the steryotypical male, masked type ninja..I hope you know what I'm talking about... heh, dosen't matter...

Battle Arena Toshinden games? I have to say I've never heard of it...

Anyway.. todays stereotype is..

The old master!

Wang Jinrei - Tekken
Shun Di - Virtua Fighter
Shujinko - Mortal Kombat ( ok... perhaps a bit of a stretch)

Anybody know of some REALLY good fighting game sprite places? There's some specifics I'm looking for that nobody seems to have.

I had read that they released a BAT 4, but I can't find any concrete evidence. Even GameFAQs seems to have nothing on it. BTW, I just saw the Toshinden anime recently - interesting stuff, but they just left a lot of things open that even the games never touched upon. I wonder why they never released any Toshinden games past the PS1, though? I was thinking that someone should buy the license, revamp the characters, and release an uberly-cool game.
