Ok, working on my 100% legit 493 pokedex, I've got to get the last Legendary dog. So I had to start game with bulbasaur.

I'm not looking for super omg fast speedrun, just something that will be pretty *****in, and will have a good time.

    My thoughts are.

    Venusaur
    Arcanine
    Alakazam
Marowak (he's cool and gets False swipe)
    Lapras
    [insert cut/strength/fly slave here] (probably a farfetch'd)

    Ideas suggestions?

Oh and hello to every one who missed me ;p

If you breed Fire Punch on Abra, you won't need Arcanine at all, unless you REALLY want it. Personally, I would use Snorlax over Marowak, but it is your team.

    Venusaur
    Alakazam
    Snorlax
    Lapras

That should play through the game rather nicely. Just make sure Snorlax has Earthquake and Shadow Ball. Good luck.

Sorry but you lost my credibility after this statement right there.

I'm NOT putting Fire Punch onto Abra. Thats a waste of my time.

Snorlax instead of morhawk is a GREAT idea, snorlax can also get surf..
Lapras is very good but you get it pretty far at the game..

and how about a gengar? (haunter is still good if you cant trade)

You are kidding, right? Alakazam has a Base SAtk of 135, which is the highest non-uber stat in the game. A Fire Punch attack (75 AP) from Alazakam does max damage of 16% to Snorlax while a STAB Flamethrower attack (142.5 AP) from Arcanine does 24%. Also factor in that Alakazam's Base Spd is 120 (again one of the highest in the game) and that it can learn Calm Mind and that makes Arcanine useless, as Alakazam is faster and can hit harder and has a more diverse movepool.

I wouldn't offer you a different Pokemon if it wasn't better.

Alakazam's fire punch will do moderate to no damage to ice types compared to canine. Not to mention Arc gets Extremespeed Priority.

Zam is good if I could get a HP fire Zam.

Gengar is useless tbh, Zam is faster and can do everything he can do except for thunderbolt. Zam gets Shadow ball so counter ghosts aren't really a problem or counter psychics.

Snorlax is a good thought, his sp. att really is moderate. Lapras was mainly for lance's pokes, all though he shouldn't be to much of a difficult person to take down.

You are forgetting that Fire Punch is a special move in the 3rd generation, plus with a higher base SpA, it will be better than ANY of Arcanine's fire moves, with the STAB bonus, because it has such a lower base SpA

Either way, anything works in-game, choose your favorites :P

That just isn't true. A non-STAB Fire Punch from Alakazam does 87% damage to Glalie, and with Thunderpunch, it can handle Ice/Water hybrids while Arcanine gets dead.

Arcanine may get Extremespeed priority, but that is just one move, and a non-STAB move at that, while Alakazam will go first with ANY move it uses.

There just really is no comparison between the two.

Snorlax shouldn't be using special attacks in the first place. It is one of the best physical attackers in the game.

    That was the point.

People are suggesting sp. att spreads for him llol..
