First Gold/Shiny Pokemon encounter

I'm sure everyone is familiar with the term Gold but normally used as Shiny Pokemon. Well they are Pokemon that appear very rarely and are a color they shouldn't be.

What I want to ask is when was your first encounter with one?
What version and what location?

Mine was in Gold Version in the cave you battle Ash. I saw a golden graveler but I couldnt catch it. So when I told everyone about it they wouldn't believe me.

A few weeks later my cousin caught a Golden Dolphan(not sure if thats how you say it) and then I was no longer crazy.
