Think back to the first time you ever played RBGY. What age were you? I know I was really young I had brothers who played and I remember I had my own blue version but I was young. I was probably I don't know maybe 4 or 5. I do remember reading a lot of text wrong. Maybe I was six. I remember Blue version was my first pokemon game though and I played it obsessively. Things I remember doing for the first time. I remember the first time being able to surf. I remember surfing by the guy who gives you the good rod's house. In that small pond I loved the music so much I kept doing it for a long time. I don't know why but that's the memory that stuck to me. So what about you guys got any memories from the first time you played as a kid?

I don't remember much about Red and Blue, but when I first played Yellow I was like, "Well I could get this Mankey to learn Karate Chop, even though it won't be very effective..." And to my surprise it learned Low Kick. And I remember trying to run through the last four Gym Leaders with a Sandslash, and Erika with a Pidgeotto. The former was kinda cumbersome, and for Giovanni I totally forgot I had Blastoise, which I used against Dugtrio but for some serious reason didn't even think to use against his others (especially Rhydon). God, what was wrong with me back then.

Yeah, those were when we had not as much knowledge on Pokémon as we do today.

I remember, playing my first Pokémon game, Yellow, which I got for Christmas in 1999, when I was 11, quite a lot when I first got it. During that time, I remember making it to Pewter City, after struggling to get through Viridian Forest, and wondering why I couldn't exit Pewter to the east (Route 3), with an NPC always redirecting me to the Gym.
I had spent quite a lot of time in my first couple of weeks of playing Yellow trying to figure out how things worked with the game, which is why I didn't progress very much in that game at first.

I remember being 8 or 9 when I got my Blue version. I remember getting stuck against brock because I had chosen a Charmander as my starter. So I restarted my game and chose Bulbasaur.

My first brief venture into R/B was on a family friend's GameBoy. I didn't get very far, though, as I just stayed in the rival battle for a really long time (Tail Whip sounded more powerful to me than Tackle, and I guess I didn't pay that much attention to the HP bar, and my rival's Bulbasaur used Growl a lot, so it was a long battle). I got the game for myself a few months later, when I was almost 8, and I had a much better idea of what I was doing. I do recall getting stuck in Mount Moon, blacking out right near the ladder I needed to reach in order to progress, and then restarting the game because I thought I had taken the wrong fork (I thought that I was supposed to go down the path towards Victory Road instead, which I hadn't explored). Once I got through Mount Moon, the rest of the game was much smoother sailing (though still a lot more difficult than any of my subsequent Pokemon games).
