3rd Gen Flygon w/ fire blast or hyper beam?

No, I just checked it and there was nothing about it being a Physical move. Ever.
Actually, it's normal type, so it's physical. Normal, rock, fighting, ground, bug, steel, flying, and poison attacks are all physical. In Gen IV, it became special because it wasn't a contact move.

Anyways, still looking for another move. I'm thinking dragon claw. But I dunno.

Okay, let me explain something:

If he's talking about Generation III, then yes, hyper beam is physical because just about all normal type moves were considered physical. However...

What's recommended for Gen III is a special Flygon. Let me explain why:

Flygon@Choice Specs(I think they had this in Gen III?)
Mild Nature

  • Earthquake(For STAB, of course. You can't forget the awesomeness and strength that is Earthquake when combined with stab
  • Dragon Claw(Dragon Claw is considered a special move in Gen III, hence is also why I chose Mild for best stab)
  • Flamethrower(Not only would this be beneficial to the nature, but also to pokemon like skarmory and other pokemon that resist EQ and Dragon Claw)
  • Rock slide (For the flyers and ice types that get in the way)
Though the choice specs is BEST used when considering Dragon Claw. Otherwise, just stick with Leftovers or something of that sort. D:

But I really hope this is Emerald you're playing, so you could regain Earthquake and the such after you've used them.
No choice specs, only choice band in Gen III. Yeah I'm playing emerald, how do you mean I can regain it? Through pickup I'm assuming?

I believe the Battle Fronteir in Emerald offers it.
Nope, I just checked, it isn't offered =/ (unless it's somewhere other than the exchange corner or the room with the two old lady move tutors)

No, I believe they don't even offer that... .__.

Though I refuse to believe that Earthquake is just a one-use TM and that you can't really get it back through other means.
So far, all I can find is that you can have a 1% chance to get the TM back through a level 91 zigzagoon with pickup. =/

BLARGH!! lol.

I suppose I will just have to pick another move to replace it. I don't feel like leveling a zigzagoon. =p

Wow. A lot of bad information being bandied about around here. Physical Flygon is better than Special Flygon. It is as simple as that. You use Fire Blast over Flamethrower because Flygon's base SAtk is only 80 and you want Adamant Flygon in order to take advantage of its base Atk of 100.

I would definitely suggest getting TM26 through Pickup. Just battle Gabby a few times with a Zigzagoon in the second slot with Protect, and a strong Pokemon in the first slot with Explosion/Selfdestruct. Use Explosion/Selfdesctruct and Zigzagoon gets all the Exp points. Once it reaches Lv21, start item farming as you get Rare Candies 5% of the time. Once it reahes Lv41 it increases to 10%. Between item farming and battling Gabby, you will have a Lv91 Linoon in no time. Then go to BF and clone 5 other Lv91 Linoone. Item farm some more and you will have TM26 in no time. Very much worth the effort.

BTW - Substitute is a great move to use in-game, as the computer will invariably use non-attacking moves and won't take steps to either prevent of blast through Subs like a human opponent will.

I have my own opinion!

HyperBeam is good for my Flygon, even if it's a 2 round attack...

I think it's worth it!

A powerful attack hits and can instantly kill an enemy!

Sucks for you though if it doesnt hit! Mine always hit! No miss!

Fireblast? I think it's good too! :)

P.S. = Try that Fireblast out! Roar! ;) xd

Here is the problem with Hyper Beam. While that 150 AP looks good, Earthquake is also 150 AP since Flygon gets STAB bonus. Not only is it just as powerful, but you also don't risk having to miss a turn. Not to mention the fact that some types are weak to Ground attacks while NO type is weak to Normal attacks. Hyper Beam really is worthless overall, but especially on Flygon. QuakeSlide ftw.

Excellent strategy, I will try it...

EDIT: Wait, you mean "Gabby" the TV Reporter woman right?

Well I think that about wraps it up here guys, thanks for all your help. One last question, about these forums actually; once I get my emerald team in order, where can I go to post the entire thing for critique? I know there's a strategies forum but I assume that's only for online net battling? (shoddy battle, etc.)

Post the whole team properly, with what each does, their EVs, natures, etc, and read the Team posting sticky.

Then just post it in Strategies and Movesets - it's for any properly made team rate. Just state that it IS Emerald, or people will be liek "omg why no life orb".
