I wanna be useful on this site, so i decided to make this:
Tell me if i don't explain myself, this is my first tutorial ever.
This will be useful for some of you, but it's not a big deal.
First, you'll need:
Of course, you should've followed Houndoomed's Tutorial first... i didn't follow, i did my map before i saw his tut.
This may not be useful for people who don't know how to use RPG Maker
Lets get started!
(I hope most of you have already installed RPG Maker XP, or some other version)
1. Save this pic and import it to the Graphics/Autotiles folder:
I recommend to use the pic above... it's good enough. Or make it yourself, basing on mine(unless you know about autotiles).
If you're not a good instuctions follower, well, just save that pic on the folder.
2. Then, save this and import it to your Grapchics/Tilesets folder:
After it, you MUST have imported those pics to select the transparent color, so in the game engine it can be seen very beautiful, then you're ready for next thing...
Creating the routes!!!
You MUST make your world map on a new map on your game... it will be just temporal, not forever. The size must fit on the screen, so it should be 30x20 tiles, on the default starter kit resolution... or GBA's reasolution: 240x160 - - 480x320(doubled, for starter kit resoution)
It will look like this:
So, use your imagination to create your map, mine is not fully-made yet, beacuse i'm re-adjusting the resolution of my game. But it looks like this:
^ This pic's resolution is based on the DS screen.
I recommend not to make your map too to the bottom, there must be space for the names of places, etc...
Whatever, lets continue.
Making the beautiful part
After you finished your map layout(routes, cities, etc...) you must press F4 on the editor, and all the layers will be visible, like on the screen i showed you.
Nah, it didn't!!!
This technique is very useful and quick. Belive me, you may wont want to do it on paint, it's very difficult to design tile-based pictures... i made this map on about 28 hours(accumulated time, it was moreless in a week).
And it wont fit on the game screen, it's not tile-based.

Houndoomed's tut...
Tell me if i don't explain myself, this is my first tutorial ever.
This will be useful for some of you, but it's not a big deal.
First, you'll need:
- Paint/Photoshop
- RPG Maker(whatever version... no matter if your pokemon game is not based on RPG maker)
- Patience
- Pixel talent
Of course, you should've followed Houndoomed's Tutorial first... i didn't follow, i did my map before i saw his tut.

After it, you MUST have imported those pics to select the transparent color, so in the game engine it can be seen very beautiful, then you're ready for next thing...
Creating the routes!!!
- Make a new tileset from the game's database(press F9).
- The orange thingy MUST be on Autotiles folder.
- The cities MUST be on Tilesets folder.
- Create a new tileset slot(e.g: Routes). And select the already imported tileset(the one of the cities) and the already imported autotile(the one of the routes' layout).
- On the RPG Maker game editor(Map editor) make your world map.
You MUST make your world map on a new map on your game... it will be just temporal, not forever. The size must fit on the screen, so it should be 30x20 tiles, on the default starter kit resolution... or GBA's reasolution: 240x160 - - 480x320(doubled, for starter kit resoution)

Making the beautiful part
After you finished your map layout(routes, cities, etc...) you must press F4 on the editor, and all the layers will be visible, like on the screen i showed you.
- Then, after the map looks good, take a screenshot (Print Screen, or something like than, on mexican keyboards say "Impr Pant".
- On Paint, paste the screenshot(CTRL+V) and cut that image enough to reach the 480x320 map.
- Next, save you image wherever you want.
- After that, import the picture to any folder, just to eliminate the background color(on PS, you won't end in less than 2 hours).
- Got it! the image is now with transparent color, delete the original image.
- Open the pic on PS(PhotoShop) and then, create the layers you'll need.
- You SHOULD have followed Houndoomed's tutorial so, paste your land layout, the one what contains the ground, water etc...
- Paste the routes/cities layout on another layer.
- Use your magics and skills to create you map on PS: transparencies... in other words, use your imagination.
Nah, it didn't!!!
