From a newbie: I can't find info on these cards anywhere!

    Hello All:

My son (7 years old) has been collecting and trading Pokemon cards for a while. It is a very informal hobby for him and he doesn't take any of it too seriously yet.

He did come up with an interesting question today that has me completely stumped. I'm turning to the PokeCommunity for help!

He has a handful of cards from the Team Aqua vs. Team Magma set. He noticed that his Aron card (58/95) says "Team Aqua's Aron" at the top, but in his Beckett guide, it shows the exact same card (58/95) as being "Team Magma's Aron".

What's going on? I've searched for an image of "Team Aqua's Aron" all over the Internet and I can't find it.

I looked through the rest of his Team Aqua vs. Team Magma cards and I found two more that seem goofy too. One says "Team Aqua's Houndour" (62/95) and the other says "Team Aqua's Houndoom" (34/95). Online I can only find those two cards as belonging to Team Magma, not team Aqua.

I'm assuming these are not error cards, since I can't find any reference to such an error anywhere. I'm also assuming that they are not fake cards as they pass the light test. So, I guess that the set included two versions of these cards? If so, why can't I find a picture of the Aqua version of these cards anyhwere?

    Thanks a bunch,
    Mike

Sorry man, but there are no Team Aquas Aron or Aquas Houndour/Houndoom, (also taking into account those numbers). Also, there has never been a recorded version of an error from these sets.

Sounds a bit like a fake, work out where you son got them from and see if it traces back to a dodgy owner/seller.
Also scrutinously compare it against a real card, including texture and font size. If it is fake, it would require reprinting which often are inperfect.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Your answer makes sense and yet I'm really confused as to why/how these cards could be fake.

As my son remembers it (he has a better memory than I do!) these were bought a couple of years ago, possibly at a "dollar store" locally. Although the "dollar store" sells cut-rate stuff, they are usually overstock items from other stores and stuff. It would be weird for them to get something from a counterfeiter.

The cards look perfect in every way except for the "Team Aqua" thing. The printing is clear and similar to other cards. The card stock is heavy. All the text I've looked at seems to match a good card. The logos are right. None of the ways to dectect fake cards that I've been able to find has led to any discoveries.

Would it help me to post a scan of the cards somewhere for people on here to see?

The only clue I had from anybody anywhere that there might be a Team Aqua version of these cards was from another message board where somebody was thinking about what it would be like to have an ex version of Houndoom and Houndour:

"If they made a houndoom ex, I think you could have upto 16 Houndoom and 12 Houndour in a deck.

They have Team magma's and team aqua's of each. So thats's 8 of each. Plain old Houndour of Houndoom so 12 and 12. Then you could put upto 4 houndoom ex."

Notice that the person said, "They have Team magma's and team aqua's of each". Nobody else backed them up on that, but I wonder where they got that idea?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi there,

If it helps, you can find scans of Team Magma and Team Aqua cards in this set list. You could compare the cards you have to the ones on this list, as this set is the only one to contain Team Magma or Team Aqua cards. :)

That Aron should be kept because it is a misprinted card.
