Fruits Basket

I live near an international university, so there are quite a few Asian, Indian, etc. students around. ^_^ So the local Barns & Noble store and the university bookstore stock quite a few manga, amoung them Furuba, and I see both Asian and American fans around. :3 Even so, there are still quite a few ignorant, redneck racists at my school. >_o

I've tried getting friends into Furuba, but the only two I've succeded in were my two friends who already liked anime n' stuff. XD One of their friends walked past us one day when we were talking about it, she looks at it, then was like, "What the crap, that book's backwards. O_o"

Gah! That really bothers me! -snarls- I carry around the books with me sometimes at school, just 'cause I lend them to a lot of my friends (thank GOODNESS most of my friends read Fruits Basket -I forced them- and all of my friends are accepting of my...obsession) but I get cold stares from people, and then the perverted boys who think Manga is mainly about porn ask me, "can I borrow that?" -rolls eyes- It has such a different meaning to a lot of kids in US than in Japan.

Of course, my school is full of that "popular" **** crowd who call anime and manga 'babyish' just because Pokemon is considered crappy now. I do not care for the Pokemon anime, but that gives them no right to judge other anime or manga! JUST LET ME GO AROUND MY DAY WITHOUT BEING JUDGED! THANK-YOU! >.<

Bleh, I know. >_< People at my school are always teasing me about my obsession with anime, manga, and Japanese culture, especially this one goup of stereotypical morons. >0

To them, Japanese = Ching Chang Chung. Manga = backwards, weird-looking comic books. Anime = Either overly childish or overly mature animation from Japan. People are just idiots. O_o; No, not idiots. Baka. Baka baka baka.

Well, back on topic, I did meet this one girl at a summer camp who LOVED Furuba. I ws only on volume 2 at the time, but I saw her reading volume...ten, I think. I ran over to her wide-eyed and said, "OmigoshisthatFruitsBasket? O_O"
Yup. Good ol' Fiona-oneechan..I miss her so...

XD it seems Fruits Basket is getting quite popular. I hate how mean and greedy Akito is, she is just a spoiled little kid.

I do hate Akito for a lot of what she's done, but really, I can't blame her. Raised as a boy, added to the stress of being "Kami" and having an obsessional need for men, she has a lot of mental stress. Still, she shouldn't take it out on other people. I wish she'd take more of it out on Ren. I hate Ren. I hate her for what she did to Akito. But I still find her interesting. O_o

Yeah, some people actually say something like that to me (being Japanese) saying 'Chang Ching' but that actually make me think that they are mixing up with Chinese (ok, some people at my school thinks I'm Chinese, they think that some Japanese kid wouldn't attend non-Japanese school)

My friend also thinks manga as weird backward comics, but not in a bad way, they just always wonder why Japanese has books backwards...

Anyway, Akito is an alright character, but I hate it when he takes depression on somebody and hurts other people...

Ugh, I abosolutely HATE that. >_o If people were a little more internationally educated, they might realise that Chinese and Japanese are DIFFERENT. I can't blame some people for confusing the written language, since (if I am correct, forgive me if I'm not. ^^) the Japanese adapted the Chinese style of writting. However, you'd think they'd realise the there is a pretty big pronounciation difference.
I also don't like it when, like you said, people think that Japanese and people of other nationalities wouldn't attend American schools. That's almost racist, if not completely. Anyone has the right to go to any school, no matter what.

I think it's cool that Japanese books are backwards. XD Besides, I've gone so long reading manga that I'm used to reading that way. Though...I guess it's not really backwards...just to people who are used to reading left-toright style books. :o

*Pats Akito* Yup, she needs anger management classes. XD
*Is promptly bashed on the head with a vase*
.........see?

Mrf, Kyo needs and anger-management class sometimes, too. -gets a glare- Ehehehe, I'm kidding...

Anyway, I do not stereo-type people. I am a good person (or so I want to believe). And it especially annoys me that people make negative comments about the direction manga is read! I mean, not only manga is read that way, but (being Jewish) we read the Torah "backwards" and everything else written in Hebrew "backwards." It isn't backwards, its reading from right-to-left, not left-to-right. >.<

And I especially get annoyed with my childish friend. Everytime we pass an Asian person (whether Japanese, Chinese, ect.) she giggles and does a really bad impression of something I believe is Chinese...but its just weird sounds. She's really biased, and it bothers me, considering I have a lot of Asian friends...>.<

But, that's not gonna end up pretty for her. ^.^ At least we're not biased.

Argh i hate people who are biased. People of other cultures other than my own rock! i love studying about different cultures, no matter what culture. I hate it when people are racist and make a joke about a person just cuz they look or talk differently. U realize that a lot of people still make fun of mentally challenged people? That really ticks me off, it's not their fault!
And yes Akito does need Anger managment. XD

Most people in my school are pretty unbiased, but there are still a few people who are kind of biased, but they're just ignorant, so I ignore them as much as I can. Akito does need some anger managment classes, but I don't know if she'd have the patience for them lol. ^^ By the way, in what volume did it say Akito was a woman? I didn't know until I read your posts!

Its in vol 17 that says that akito is a woman.

XD Kyo is so cute. My boyfriend found out how much i like Kyo and he's like: my girlfriend is in love with an anime character, that makes the one you like feel just so great. He jelous of Kyo!

Interesting...lol^^, hmm, Kyo IS pretty cute, but my fav. charactors are Haru and Momiji! So kawaii! XP (By the way, anyone know a site with scans from all the mangas? I already looked, I can't find any >.< )

I know i am actually in love with: Kyo, Shigure, Hatori, and Haru! *faints from looking at pics of them*

Hope this isn't thread bumping.

I adore Fruits Basket!! I've read all the English issues that have been released so far over the internet, cuz Australia is the forgotten capital of the world when it comes to these things *truth*.

My favourite characters would have to be...well, I like all of them, but my top four would be Yuki, Ayame, Ritsu and Shigure. Because they all make me laugh! Well, maybe not Yuki. But the other three are awesomely funny!! (Especially Ayame...I like, laugh everytime he speaks...even though his dub voice was rather...eeeep. XD)

Because I'm in a crazy shipping mood, I thought we should talk about COUPLEZ OKAY!!!!

Yay. So...which shippings do you guys support? (Has there already been this topic in the thread? If so, sozness.) Also, there are some spoilers here. I've highlighted the shippings with spoilers in bold (because I'm too lazy to actually put the black bars in) if you guys don't want to read. But you probably know all this anyway.

Kyo x Tohru (Oh come on, who doesn't support this? Even though I really...don't...like...Kyo...AT ALL. Am I the only person here who doesn't like him?!? He really annoys me. NO OFFENCE to fans, which is like...everyone. Hooray, I've offended everyone! *feels alone*)

Kyo x Uotani (Just because I feel like being random.)

Shigure x Akito (Argh, the ANGST. I actually find the story behind these two rather like a bad soap opera. I mean, he slept with her mom to get back at her for sleeping with random guy. [Even though Kureno isn't really a random guy] Honestly XDDDDD.)

Ayame x Mine [his assistent] (THIS IS MY FAVOURITE SHIPPING AT THE MOMENT. I know, I'm strange. But I saw this scan that showed the two of them about to kiss and I was like...OMFG!!!! THAT IS SOOOOOO CUTE *$@#*$(%)$*)#&^)%&(#$)!!!!!! *dances madly around room* Heh. XDDD)

Ritsu x Mii-chan [Shigure's editor] (I find shippings out of no-where! Oh come on, the scene in the eighth book with these two was adorable. They were all blushing and stuff!! *lolz proud*)

Yuki x That shy girl on the Student council (Yes, I can't remember her name. The one who destroys stuff. I saw chemistry here, people, serious chemistry! I think they understand each other. Oh it's so cute.)

Haru x Rin (Just because. I so think they should get back together.)

Hatori x Mayu [Kana's friend] (I want these two to get back together because Mayu truly wanted Kana to be happy with Hatori even though she loved him too. I mean, she wasn't spiteful, or happy when they broke up. I think she deserves him, personally.)

K-bleh. I used to support Yuki x Tohru but... (SPOILER) It ain't gunna work, I'm 'friad.

Phew. I had to get that off my chest. Hooray! I can relax now.

Anyone else wanna voice there shippings?
