Ok, I see alot of people claiming copyrights on copyrighted material. Then theres some people who just claim copyrights and have not even gone through the proper procedures to have an original work copyrighted (this is the majority, which would explain the misunderstandings) I want to make this clear you cannot copyright anything that is a derivative work of the intellectual property of nintendo. This means that you cannot, no matter how much this sucks, claim copyrights on any material that you have made that has anything to do with pokemon the same thing goes for any other copyrighted material no matter what you do to it, if its pokemon its still a derivative work of material owned by another company. Why cant you copyright it? Becuase a copyright, despite popular belief, is not to ensure noone uses your work, but its to ensure that noone uses your work without paying you. If someone had to pay you to use your sprite then you would be recieving money from Nintendo's intellectual property which is Pokemon, which would get you a lawsuit you probably couldnt afford and some time in jail. i dont know if any of you know this but claiming a copyright where there is none is illegal, why is it illegal? Probably because if everyone could just claim a copyright to scare off theives there would be no real reason to get a copyright, you would be using the word "copyright" which is copyrighted to protect your work without properly paying the people who offer this service, the government. The creators of fansites that state that theyre material is copyrighted are actually in danger of being sued by the same people theyre trying to detur from stealing their work. learn more about what youre getting into before you start claiming anything and everything on your hard drive. I personaly hate copyright laws why? Because I work in the music industry nough said, but I wouldnt advise children and teens flirting around with that part of the law its dirty and full of backfires, you might want to find another way to protect your work.

^^^for information incanse any of you are curious knowledge is power

Ok... First of all if somebody uses your sprite it is just wrong... And if you make a scratch sprite(that isn't based on any of the existing pokemon sprites or any other) you can claim copyright but ofcourse you must pay to get it copyrighted...

You're putting far too much thought into this...

    a) To work off of bases we need rips, rips come from emulated games, which are illegal. Spriting itself isn't illegal, but if they cared, they'd stop us.

    b) ... There is no b, fool

    c) There isn't a c, either

    d) The 'credit' is just for obtaining, it is not for creating, at least in terms of rips, therefore, that's a no go..

    e) We aren't making a profit out of these, which is (probably) why Nintendo doesn't care... at all

^^^spriting is not illegal, spriting and then using them in fan games or claiming them as an original work is illegal, all of the rest is correct and I said all of that
