I apologize if this has been beaten to death, or is elsewhere on the forums, but I'm the type of person that feels if I can echo something back, then I know that I've gotten it figured out.

I own a 1st Gen Pokemon game, Red for the Gameboy, and a 4th Gen Pokemon game, Soul Silver for the DSi (based on the descriptions found on Wikipedia).

Now from my understanding I can trade the Pokemon from my Red game into a third gen game, such as FireRed or LeafGreen for the GBA. Then the Pokemon that are on the FireRed or LeafGreen could be imported into Soul Silver using a DS Lite.

It seems like a lot of work, but I have 145 Pokemon (including some 60+, all three starters, Mew and Mew 2), and am curious if it's even possible.

    Thanks for reading!

Nope. The metal and color generations were compatible with each other within a certain criteria, however once the advance generation came about, a new chain of compatibility started. RSE/FRLG can have Pokemon migrated to DPPT/HGSS, however they cannot trade. The DS generation can trade, though. So, if you have FireRed, you can migrate Pokemon to your SoulSilver. Hope this helps. Next time, please use the simple Q&A thread.

    Locked.
