2nd Gen Games Deleting?

G/S/C have this problem sooner than many other older game cartridges due to their internal clock. The clock constantly running drains their internal battery much faster than other games.

games deleting? my pokemon gold deleted it self and i was uber angry becuase i had 19 level 80 pokemon Grrrr lol

I think this happened because of the clock inside the game. When it reached a certain time, I think like 999:99 or something like that, the game would just be deleted, because of no more room on the save, or it would corrupt the battery and delete the save file.

Good theory, but no.

There's just an internal battery to keep the memory that holds the save active. Like RAM in a computer, the information is lost when the power is turned off. It effectively keeps the save memory powered on. The internal clock, which is hardware in the GBC games drains extra power and can cause the battery to drain quickly. Battery stops - Memory loses power and is wiped. Simple.

This doesn't usually occur in later games as iirc, they use flash memory or SDRAM.
