I noticed that in the original games, Gary/Blue say's he has caught a Cubone at Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town, however if Gary can catch Pokemon in the tower whiles't you see them in Ghost form, does that mean that he possibly got a Silph Scope from somebody prior to coming to Pokemon Tower or did the writers completely overlook the fact that the player sees the Pokemon as a Ghost.

Personally, I disagree the fact that he got a Silph Scope before coming to the tower as I'm pretty sure that there is only one Silph Scope and Giovanni and Team Rocket stole it when they infiltrated Silph Co.
So that leaves me with this thought in mind... are the Ghosts directly contacting Red. But I doubt this as the trainers in the tower get possessed by said Ghosts.

    Cubone isn't a ghost.
Therefore Gary is able to see it.
And he's pretty dicky, so I'm sure he swindled someone out of a Silph Scope ANYWAY!

Lol, but Cubone is seen as a ghost in Pokemon Tower without a Silph Scope which means you cannot capture it without it and since there is definitively only one Silph Scope, unless he got one of Prof. Oak (happy birthday(!)), there is no way he would have been able to catch a Cubone in Pokemon Tower without one.

Interesting thought. I agree with mucus one one point; Cubone isn't a ghost and the ghosts that appear in the tower before you acquire the Silph Scope are probably Gastly and Haunter coming to scare you. Gary isn't easily scared, so he probably sneaked past them and found a Cubone somewhere on a higher floor.

However, I too believe that there was only one Silph Scope. So I don't think that's how he got it.

The most plausible explanation though, is probably that the writers wanted to point out to the player somehow that more than ghosts could be found in the tower if you searched enough ;) They might not have thought about the technicalities around it. But like I said, Cubone is not a ghost. Marowak is a different story.

Also, I'll move this to Metal & Color Generation Gaming since you say it is about the original games.

Red is a scaredy cat, so even if he wasn't getting haunted by ghosts that's all he saw, before the Silph Scope gave him enough courage to face the demons of the tower!
(yeah, totally tying this into the witchcraft thread)

Yeah good point, I feel sorry for Blue in all fairness, his eldest relative basically hates him and favours his nemesis over him, at the start of the game, Oak can't even remember his name, his rival (possibly) killed one of his Pokemon. He says he will do better but no matter what he keeps getting beat. When he wins the championship, he loses to Red moments later and at the end, after all he has been through, his "Gramps" ridicules him and basically acts as if he was never champion.

Sorry to go off topic but isn't Blue the only gym leader so far not to have a dedicated type?

Giovanni didn't really have a dedicated type, did he?

also I really really don't think Red killed any of Blue's pokemon. It makes no sense and doesn't stick to the canon of pokemon.
isn't it more likely Blue used a box in the pc like all other pokemon trainers?

True, he always has to use some special object to get through somewhere, he has to buy a drink for a security guard blocking the road. If it Blue he'd just basically walk through with his middle finger in the air, in fact this is how he got past the elite 4 and won the championship.

My last thought is though, did Blue start the Elite 4? I mean when he challenged them he would have face 3 elites and 1 champion (since Lance was champion) but when Blue becomes champion, Lance becomes part of the "Elite 3" to make it the "Elite 4" which means Red would have to face 4 elites, not just 3.

The elite 4 were always the elite 4 but Gary, the forever dick, decides to hang around and wait for Red to show up for one more challenge!

Gio used Ground type as his favoured type. Rhyhorn, Dugtrio, Nidoqueen, Nidoking and Rhydon. (when I was younger I thought Persian would have been in the team but nvm)

And about the killing thing I said it is a possibility but there is quite a lot of talk about killings and slavery for a kids game.

Yes but there's supposed to be 5 trainers in the pokemon league anyway, isn't there? The Elite 4 plus the Champion. If Blue didn't win the Pokemon league Red would only have had to face 4 trainers.

As others have said, given the rival's attitude towards things, including the player character, it's plausible that he could get through the ghosts and snatch a Cubone in the Pokémon Tower-after all, he boasts at various points throughout the game about how many Pokémon he has caught.

There are catchable Cubone in Pokemon Tower, even without the Silph Scope.

    This

Plus it's a game directed at kids, there are going to be plotholes. We can always try to explain them, but not like they're going to be what Gamefreak intended.

I think in the Pokemon Origins anime, Blue beats a rocket member for the Silph Scope..

Blue is the grandson of the famous, Oak.
It's most likely, Oak has one and he ''borrowed'' it, or Blue decided to use his grandpa's fame as an excuse for free things.

    His a douché afterall.
