    Blue Oak: The Truth

Hey all. I know this is extremely old, but I haven't seen it until recently, and perhaps some of you haven't:

When you encounter your rival in Lavender Town he asks whether or not you know what it's like to have one of your Pokémon die. At this point in the game, he no longer has his Raticate that he used in previous battles.Your rival battle before this took place aboard the S.S. Anne. Your rival's Raticate sustained serious injuries from the battle...but, because crowding and confusion on the luxury liner, he was unable to make it to a Pokémon Center in time and the Raticate passed away. The real reason your rival is in Lavender Town to begin with is to lay his deceased friend to rest.Despite all of this, your rival never outwardly tells you that you're responsible for the death of his Pokémon. He hides his grief and instead channels that energy into the motivation he needed to continue his quest to become Indigo League Champion.

The death of his Raticate effectively destroys your rival's impish, childhood innocence. Although he tells himself that he doesn't hold you responsible, he subconsciously holds a great deal of resentment towards you which further fuels his ambitions.Tearfully swearing upon his Raticate's grave to not fail in what he set out to do, he trains hard in hopes of becoming better than you...defeating you...and to eventually make it to the Pokémon League. Mere moments after he became Indigo League champion, he was defeated...by you. Although he fulfilled his promise to his fallen Pokémon, it was only for a painfully brief instant. In the end, your rival is scolded by his grandfather while you receive the professor's praise.

During the course of the game, you steal your rival's innocence, crush his dreams, and ultimately snatch away the love of his own grandfather. Oh, and by the way, your rival doesn't have any parents. He's an orphan.

They also posted that story at the Creepypasta thread, but it's still an interesting theory.

It's funny, I couldn't actually find the thread I linked to without digging through my browsing history. O_o

I still think that level SIXTEEN Raticate died from ODing on those experimental evolution-speeding drugs.

I think Gary was just upset because his grandfather couldn't remember his name.

Thread title is a misnomer. Gary Oak is not present in R/B. you must be thinking of Blue Oak. XD

Yes, this is nothing new, I already know.

Well he is referred to as Gary in the anime (show), I believe.

Gary (anime) didn't have a Raticate in the show.

Maybe you should call it Blue Oak: The Truth (Blue is his default name).

The most retarded theory in a long line of retarded fan theories. "Gary" (Blue) explicitly says he's there to catch a Cubone or something along those lines. There's no indication a Pokemon of his, Raticate or any other, died. People just want to make Gary less of a dick.

He didn't say that; he said he just caught a Cubone. He could have been unaware they were at the tower and, perhaps upon seeing the skull on its head, caught one to remember his dead Raticate. Also, if there's no indication of it, why would his Raticate suddenly disappear with no explanation when you get to the tower renowned as a pokemon cemetary?

...yeah, in case you couldn't tell, I kind of think this theory is feasible.

He ditched Raticate for the same reason you don't see it in the OU tier (it blows). Not because it died.

That was one of the funniest things I have read in a long time. That is really, really hilarious. XD But okay.

He caught a Pokemon with a skull on its head to honor his dead Pokemon? That's absurd. There's any number of reasons why Raticate wasn't in his team at that point other than it having died: for one, maybe because Blue is a dick and didn't want to use a weak Pokemon anymore. There's no evidence to support this other than a leap of speculation. No logic.

Here's an Interesting theory...Maybe Blue realised that Raticate sucks and deposited it in a box like the hero can.

People look to deep into Pokemon games sometimes.

    Champion Blue sent out Raticate!

    ...No.

    Interesting theory though I suppose :P .

I love stories like that. xD I doubt his Raticate died though, it seems too dark for a game young children play. He probably just stored it away, it's not like trainers don't change their parties around time to time.

The thread title is misleading. This couldn't be anything further from the truth.

The person who came up with this obviously forgot about Bill's PC.
