GBA/GB Time Machine Idea

I just thought of something! Nintendo could make a time machine trading device between GBA and GB games. It really is possible. The machine (very expensive, about as expensive as a gba) would have two slots- one for the GBA link cable and one for the GB link cable. Plug both games in and turn on the machine. The screen (a touch screen) would show both games' party pokemon. Once both pokemon have been selected, the games would trade the pokemon to the machine. The machine would determine what pokemon were being traded and generate a pokemon of the opposite generation. Example: Leaf Green trades bulbasaur(GBA) to machine. Machine generates bulbasaur (GB) from bulbasaur (GBA)'s stats. As for the "special" stat in RBY, it would be an average of the Sp. Def and Sp. Atk stats of the Advanced Generation Pokemon. Hope you like the idea!

im not prepared to pay $120 for a link cable thingy

How about the difference between RBYGSC and RSE IV/EVs?

I mean, even if the new hardware is invented, the original software will prevent trading from happening...

There are a bunch of problems with this.

    1. Loss. Trading a GBA Pokémon to a Colour/Metal gen game would incur a whole lotta data loss. For one, IVs only have half the precision in the Colour/Metal-gen games, and the HP IV is just constructed from the ones bits of the other four IVs. Special Attack and Special Defense share an IV. Throw genders and hidden powers into the mix, and you've lost pretty much everything. Forget shininess. Kiss natures bye-bye. Pokémon are supposed to be individuals and these stats are supposed to be consistent. I guess contest stats, ribbons, and trainer memos are thrown out the window as well.
    2. Ambiguity. What nature does a Pokémon imported from a Colour/Metal-gen game have? Is it always Hardy? Is a random neutral nature selected based on its IVs? Is it assigned one of any natures, which would significantly alter its stats? What about EVs? Sure, we can divide by 256 to get the Advanced gen equivalent, but we have the effort cap to worry about. EVs are another thing that shouldn't randomly go down, but would.

I believe it could have been possible to get GBA/GBC linkage going on without any sort of extra device if they wanted it to. (I'm no GBA hardware expert; there may be problems with voltage and transfer rate, but Nintendo could've included some sorta link dongle with the games to overcome this.) The reason they didn't make the Advanced gen games compatible with the earlier ones was that they didn't want to be bound by the old data structures. They switched to 128Kbyte flash for their saves, so they wanted to put the extra space to good use.

It would rock, but as Kohei already said before... it'll just won't work, for it to work you must atleast modify all the stats. , ev thingy.. etc. etc. etc.

It would be great for a future GBA----DS trades !!!I think :D It would be stupid to make other remake games only so we could get all on one game and then start all over again with the next gen !!!
I want them to make tradin between gens possible(GBA-----DS) because they already made all pokemon catchable in the GBA, and the focus on making new gens in a shorter period of time !

(I didn't quite understand myself either)

It's already been confirmed that the fourth-gen games will link to the third-gen games, and there are a couple of ways they could do this without needing any extra devices:
    1. GBA slot in the DS. Same as Dash/Mysterious Dungeon. Put a GBA Pokémon game and a D/P game in the same DS, start D/P, trade away.
    2. Wireless Adapter. While the DS doesn't support multiplay from a GBA game, that doesn't prevent linking (using the Wireless Adapter on a GBA with a Pokémon game) to a GBA game. It's entirely software. If the DS BIOS allows raw access to the wifi hardware, it can be done. Pop a D/P game into a DS, pop an Advanced-gen Pokémon game into a GBA with the Wireless Adapter. Go into D/P's "classic" union room (if such a thing exists, of course; this is entirely speculation), go into the Union Room on the GBA, trade/whatever. It's possible; that doesn't mean it will happen.

Hm... is it possible to overwrite data on the cartridge (example: what pokemon appear where) and have that information stored even without a device such as a gameshark? If it could, maybe the cable could store the extra information somewhere there, like Missingno. Or possibly in the savegame. I don't really know much about how GB/GBA games work, so please don't laugh at me.

they could invent a memory card to side into the device to store the extra data or be able to use gamecube memory cards to store it

No. The GBC games use plain ol' ROM. Read only memory. The only thing that can be rewritten is the save RAM, which is already packed to the limit.

That doesn't solve the problem of using a different device on the way back. Instead of having to use a different Magical Transfer Machine to cause trouble, you now have to use a different memory card.

If they do that then it will be really easy to get the legendaries including Mew. The Nintendo company wants you to go to their events and get the Pokemon their way. I wished they did do that.

All they need to do is to make a device to be able to transfer the GBC Pokemon over to the GBA games...why would anyone want to transfer from GBA to GBC, anyway?? As far as nature goes, just apply the same decisions on them as are applied on wild Pokemon. Anything else, like IVs, the Special stats (which, if memory serves me correctly, were divided anyway in GSC), and ribbons would just be set at defaults.

You make a good point there. Sometimes you have think about the enjoyment of the game. But you wouldn't want a time machine then you find out its boring because you can trade through a games.
