And then I take the disc out and replace it, and press up on the controller, and it says this..

I have tried cleaning the disc, I tried cleaning the GameCube, *without using water or soap on any* I'v also tried a different Game Disc, but it still does it. Whats wrong with my GameCube? What do I need to do to fix it?

That's odd :\. Never hear too many complaints about GC malfunctions around, so I'm afraid I'm not much help. If the worst comes to the worst Nintendo will replace/fix (can't remember which) your console as long as you still have proof of purchase and have owned it for under 2 years. That's all I can suggest I'm afraid.

Maybe your laser reading scanner is broken? That thing happens with my ps2 sometimes. If you tried everything Uhh dont open up your gamecube bc you can break it. Hmm then you can go to a gamecube fixing place ?

    I can't beleive it.

This has never happened to me fortunatly, but I feel bad for you and your Gamecube. And if it somehow breaks down completely then you should buy a new one.But if you bought a new one then you should keep your old one in a safe place. It's proper respect.

Are you sure the A botton is being held down? It should be most lens. After a while the lens get dirty. It's really hard to clean though.

listening to the situation, it reminds me of a CD player of mine that did something very similar. It is possible that the Laser Lense is scratched. If that is the case, the frankly there is no fixing it. sorry. :(

However, if you send it in to nintendo, they should be able to either replace the lens, ore replace the system. :)

Yeah, and you know what, I'm really upset about this Grrrrr, the stupid waranty just ran out this month. Now I got to pay $50 for Nintendo to fix it! >:(, ok i just did a test, I turned it on, the A button not being touched, it worked perfectly, I turned it off, then back on, it went to the menu screen and not the game. I turned it off and on again, it started the game, I turned it off once more and back on, and it went to the GameCube menu... Weird.

DON'T do what I did with my PS2
Step 1: Send the PS2 to sony (Or GCN to Nintendo xD)
Step 2: Buy antoher one and plan to return it the day before it can't be returned anymore, And be really careful while taking it out of the packaging and playing it.
    Step 3: Don't return it.
Step 4:Get the old one returened, Fixed
Step 5: Now Have two PS2s (Or GCNs)

But that aside, Send it to nintendo. They'll fix it, They've fixed mine.

This discs must not spin correctly the second time being runned. You might to get the new GameCube. The good thing is that you get a free game with it. : /

Your lens must be messed up, and you made it worse by cleaning it and touching the lens again. Just send it to nintendo.
