Gen 2 rom hacking is really confusing

    So I'm trying to change some of the graphics in Gold, like pokemon and trainers. How exactly do I do that? There's a great post on this website that lists tools for the job, but nobody actually explains how.

    How do I export the graphics from the rom so that I can tweak them, and how do I put them back in? Do I have to mess with the palette in the rom so that the color is correct? If so, how? BTW I'm planning on using GraphicsGale to make the stuff. Please walk me through the whole process because my little monkey brain hurts.
