Giving Credit

I've seen some people who have pics from other artists (Pok?sho for example) in their sigs or use them as avatar and don't give credit.

I recently looked at the rules and didn't find anything about that.

I think it's unfair to use someone's art without giving credit and want to have a rule about that.
    What do you think?
Do you think people should be forced to give credit in their sigs if they use a pic made by another artist (no matter whether it's been changed or not)?

Well, I think so and I want to hear your opinion^^

If the artist doesn't mind if the member uses without credit then it should be okay not too, but if the artist does want credit for there artwork, it should and would be forced.

    Well....did you make your banner?

I know I didn't make mine x.x But still, it'd be hard to give credit to someone I don't know. x.x
Also, even though it's great to give credit...who really does care? This is a forum, not a place you would generally look for pics. It would also be a bother to put: Image by ****** in every post you have with a pic. If staff monitered that....well, there are alot of pics posted a day x.x That would be hard....

But I do think that things like the Dancing Trapinch and work by other people in PC should be cited when you use them as an avvie or sig. Expecially if they did it in a shop. I'd be upset if they didn't. x.x

Pokesho, for instance, is a far more public site than, say, somebody's deviantart page or someone's personal sprite thread on PC. I think that sites that have specialty images as the centerpieces of what they offer want people to enjoy the art, whereas sites that merely act as private display galleries definitely have more of a look-but-don't-touch feel to them. You have to determine this on a site-by-site basis, but it should generally be easy to tell. Chibi said it perfectly when she said that it would be a hassle to have to find the origin of each image before using it, and then have something that makes it seem more like a legal document than a signature under each image. Yes, people have to respect peoples' artistic privacy when the site that they're at seems like more of a showcase than a public display area, but it shouldn't be the general rule.

as with anything online, you really should credit the author/artist (even asking for permission if needed) and at least reference their site and creativity..

afterall they did all the hard work they deserve the credit for it.

I made a strict rule in the Fake Card section that when you use someone else's art for your cards, you must ALWAYS give credit regardless. My belief is if you can't find the artist, don't use the art.

It'd be nice to give credit, yeah. As long as you don't give the impression that you made the piece you should be fine. If the art says you may use their work if credited, then you must credit. If they say you may not use their work, then don't, but if you insist then at the very least give credit.

I agree with PPNsteve =/ I wouldint like to see someone useing my artwork for things like that without giving promped credit or leaveing a signature in the picture. Sometimes I catch people doing that, but in a way it depends on the artists. If you find someone who is useing someone elses art without credit, then you could tell them ^^ But most likly they will find out and it depends on the individual if they would like to see credit go to them.

I believe a lot in respecting artists' work. And it pisses me off when I see just anybody think they can take a picture and use it without giving credit if asked.

I know that if I were a talented artist I'd demand absolute credit for any of my work being "borrowed".

It doesn't matter to me if its an huge popular website using somebody else's artwork, its still stealing. :/ Yes I'm a huge art-thief hater. I don't mind of course if the artist has granted permission for just anybody to use it.

There was the issue also with Iveechan. A lot of people thought they could just take her pictures and use them as avatars. Idiots.

It doesn't take much to just ASK the person if its okay if they use their artwork as avatars.
