3rd Gen Gold Caterpie?

    I just got my Pokemon Leaf Green Version and started playing it. I was in Veridian Forest(trying to find a Pikachu) when I encountered a gold/yellow Caterpie. I caught it and then checked it's stats and it had a small, gold star next to the picture of it. Is it one of those "Shiny Pokemon" I've heard about, or is it just a glitch in the game or something? If anyone can help me out here I'd really appreciate it. Thanx!
     
    Oh man, you don`t know, how lucky you are. Its a shiny pokemon. Shiny, it means very very rare. Sometimes you can play game milion times and no shinys. Keep your Caterpie. You can evolve it, it will be a shiny Butterfree. I would like to have a shiny Caterpie too^^
     
    Well, shiny Pokemon are only really good for bragging rights... so brag away! ^_^ They're nothing better than normal Pokemon battle-wise, but they are extremely rare, so you should count yourself lucky to have even encountered one, never mind caught it. ^_^

    You are quite lucky. I too ahve a shiney caterpie. From Crystal Version. Or at least it used to be. Those of you who have kept up with the tv show would love to have one, because when it evolves, it becomes a pink Butterfree. just like that girl butterfree from that one episode.

    Lucky sod...I've never seen a shiny. Ever. And I've got the berry glitch. My life sucks.
     
    I seemed to have been lucky in Crystal Version, as I had gotten three shinies in it. First,I found teh shiney caterpie in teh Azalea woods, then I gotthe bonus egg from the day care people, and it turned out to be a shiney Cleffa. Then I cuaght the Shiney Red Gyarados at Lake Rage.
