Seriously what is your opinion on goths or people who follow dark culture?
I get called goth or asked if I'm goth all the time and I was wondering what people's opinions on goths are.
Some see us as freaks, others admire us. What about you?

Not gonna lie...you kinda creep me out. I'm all for letting people live their lives as they see fit, but when people start to flaunt it, it becomes annoying. You know what I'm talking about, right? The people, take goths for instance, that if you look at them for more than half a second, they'll give you a funny look or make some retarded comment. If someone dresses in a way that's gonna capture attention, they shouldn't get all offended when they get it. I'm not saying all people react this way, I'm just annoyed by those who do.

Personally, it depends on how far you go. If you're practically satanic, then I'm afraid that's a bit problematic - to me. I'm in love with black; in certain days, I dress all in black. However, when guys paint their nails black, wear black lipstick, eyeliner, etc, etc.. It gets really ridiculous.

I think that there is no such thing as "dark culture". It's a matter of perspective. Regardless of how "dark" I dress, I'm not a suicidal person who would throw himself in front of the first train that comes through the LRT station.

I got called "goth" too. That only made me happy, since I know from personal experience that goth people, although socially retarded, are very intelligent and sensible.

Goths aren't a common sight where I live, and I don't really know anything about them, so I'm wondering: does part of this 'dark culture' involve black magick?

From what I know of the gothic culture, you're all about individuality...But to me, and others, you all have exactly the same look.
    Quite contradictory in my opinion...

I see your "style" as nothing more than a social-label.

If Goths consider themselves "nonconformist" to the rest of society, why is it that you all dress in the same, bland color-coordination? No offense because however you see yourself, that's fine with me, but I think the label is nothing more than a way to attract attention to yourselves.

Like I said, the way you live your life is your business, not mine. I just think it's kinda ironic that self-proclaimed "Goths" find it necessary to constantly throw up in your face how "dark" they might be. Under all the elaborate makeup and bad color-coordination, you're the same as everyone else.

I wouldn't say we're not social, only we're selective about those we socialise with. We tend to read more than most people + have different taste so therefore it becomes difficult to associate with 'normal' people.

    I... don't really care? o_o'

I don't like hanging around 'Goths', so I don't; simple as that. If you guys want to spend your time pretending that you're all dark and sinister, then by all means, go ahead! Just don't try to bring me into it with you, and we won't have any problems. XD

The one thing I do get pissed off about is how you strut around like it's actually difficult to be Goth. I mean, c'mon; compared to other stereotypes (Jocks, preps, tech-geeks, etc), it's barely anything! Anyone can put on black lipstick and dress in black, but not everyone can be captain of the foot ball team, y'know what I'm saying?

No offense or anything, it's just I don't see what's so great about being Goth. And, as other people have said, you obviously crave attention. I mean, what other reason would anyone have for choosing to be depressed all the time?

Adding on to my previous statement, I've seen the way that goths act around other goths, and it is relatively the same to how "regular" people treat one another. They laugh, joke around, and talk about girls, just like others. They only act dark in front of people who aren't goth.

I consider myself selective when it comes to socializing with people, and I think everyone has that nature in them. Therefore, it is inaccurate to attribute such a characteristic to being a Goth. Similarly, there's no way that the amount of time you dedicate for reading can determine whether or not you're a Goth. A Goth is social, aesthetic I would say, stereotype, mostly associated with suicide, loneliness, and mystery. Now, notice that there are mere reflections of the societal values, and are NOT established facts. We know that there's plenty of stigma in every society towards different perspectives of many aspects of human nature.

I don't know if being a Goth could be correlated to suicidal endeavors since my ideals could be biased from the media, and we all know that the media creates a different reality most of the time. When it comes to me personally, I tend to not associate anything with any particular individual because each individual is unique by him or her self. You could meet a happy Goth and a suicidal Gangster, and at the end of the day, establishing conclusions is problematic.

This is what's on my mind right now.

...I'm sure under all that thick makeup and those unnecessary facial piercings, you're just the same as everyone else. No matter how much you might wanna pretend otherwise :'D

Dude, no offense, but you're starting to sound worse than those people who stereotype people based on their style. "We tend to read more than most people + have different taste so therefore it becomes difficult to associate with 'normal' people." You might feel that way, but I'm sure plenty of other "goths" don't.

Being "Goth" isn't a society or way of life, it's a label. If you weren't looking for attention from other people, you wouldn't feel the need to announce it in a thread like this to everyone else from over a pokemon forum.

Goth is a phase, plain and simple.

The way people choose to act and dress isn't any of my business. Goths and emo people are usually EXTREMELY creative, which I admire. That's a statistic I made up a few years back, it's something I noticed xD

Being goth doesn't make people mean, it's a phase as far as I'm concerned. No one will be like that forever and if they do then well... that's weird. I'm not into that sort of thing, like I said the phase has come and gone.

Goths? Ha, I like how everyone in this thread is talking about them like they're some sort of species.

So, what ever happened to individuality?

Yeah, what do you guys think of my type of people?

I don't think were that bad.

For w/e reason I've been called Goth by people on the net because they are ignorant :o It could be because sometimes when I rant it gets dark...but that's not necessarily "goth".

As to how I feel about "Goths", I feel as if I need Goth and Emo friends :o Not a lot, but I rather like the idea of having at least two friends who fit a social stereotype. BTW, that's all it is, a social stereotype. A social stereotype that just so happens to appear rather "dark". Good thing I like "dark" things :D

Meh, I'm pretty apathetic on "goths"....Some of them are actually pretty cool people. I don't think that just because you dress in a particular way it changes who you are or automatically smacks you into a stereotype. Some of them act a bit differently around certain people, but we all do that a little sometimes.

My best friend is "goth" or whatever. She likes metal music, wears all black and is into that sort of thing. Do I have a problem with it? hell no. I don't look at her differently just because she doesn't choose to wear color. She's an awesome person and I'll always be her friend no matter what.

All sterotypes are just normal people underneath the clothes they choose to wear, so no. I'm not freaked out by goths or anything like that. They just have their own interests like everyone else~!

Bland, boring, unoriginal, lame, unfunny, uninteresting: such things are stereotypes, and such things are goths.

Nobody encapsulates the idea I speak like Mitch Clem does, though.
