I think our government may be heading in the right direction, but the whole world needs to work together. Australia only contributes to 1% of the world's emissions so if we do something about it, it will not make an ounce of difference unless some of the bigger countries, like the US, Japan and China do the same.

Mankind on a whole contributes to around 5% of 'global warming'

You might not know this, but back in the 70s they were terrified we were going to be in an ice age by now due to rapidly decreasing temperatures. The world is going through a cycle, it's happened before and it'll happen again and again.

Although I do feel that human emmisions do effect the world we live in (obviously), I also feel that the periodic changes in the world's temperature is normal. Every four decades we go through a cycle of warming and cooling. However, whether or not global warming will throw this balance off is unknown, but I'd rather be safe than dying.

((and Al Gore is a stupid hypocrite, aye aye))

The only reason "An Inconvenient Truth" was made was to advance the Democrat's political agenda. The film had so many flaws I was shocked no professional scientist noticed them.

All the professional scientists everywhere are throwing down their microscopes and PhDs and years of education and studying and research and saying "Damn, that Arun Kumanduri kid knows his stuff!"

I live in the US. And we need fishing licenses too. But only after a certain age. And if you want to talk about raised taxes, they just doubled the tax on tobacco.

Tobacco's like $50 a pack here, they're trying to raise taxes on alcohol because of this so called "(Underage) binge drinking epidemic".

actually, you need a heating and cooling license too.
And I agree, regardless of Global Warming we should try and keep it kind of green. However, I LOVE hummers....and I will drive one one day when gas prices are lower (so never)...but i think they look cool..

They look like the sort of fuel-guzzling cars. Isn't fuel really cheap in the US now? It came down tonnes but it's still over a dollar/litre here because of the value of the dollar or something.

Gas is cheap but that doesn't mean that we should stop trying to find an alternative fuel source. However, instead of the government telling the restrictions, why don't they actually try to help the companies responsible for making the cars meet the standards by giving financial aid for research and development?

    :P

You guys know Wtheck I'd say about this and be teared to shreds by the deniers. Al Gore is da bomb *shotz0rz*

Anyways no matter our opinions on this, be happy you guys that this administration has finally put some form of Energy Independence programs in place. No matter, if the so called "wild-eyed socialist radical environmentalists" have finally made mainstream the idea that Fossil Fuels are finite and must be replaced with renewables. I don't even care anymore...since it's mainstream. =D

So shoot me if I like carbon taxes and cap-and-trade to increase revenue.

So much for hybrids and Solar Energy...

Regarding the government, if more people thought about the financial aid for R&D, Chevy, Ford, and GM wouldn't be asking for Bail-out money, would they? Damn Bush...

Even though the bailouts will probably lead to Chrystler's downfall, why the government is supporting all those "loansharks" and making it difficult on the US Auto industry, that employs millions of people, is beyond me.

Just a small note from one of the forum Michiganders - buy American cars and show the government that maybe the auto industry is better than the "loanshark" industry.

Obviously someone's not been watching the news (i.e; not you, Iwanagi)

I'm pretty sure that Chrystler is going to fall, dunno about GM and Ford. If those two fall... then we are so screwed over, it's not even funny.

Now the topic should be "Government: Is it doing enough for the economy?!". It's done plenty stupid things for the economy, that's for sure, ayup ayup.

See why the new Camaro is so cheap?

Reminds me bout what Obama said bout Detroit.(My hood that I will always love, just can't go back yet) It's the freaking Motor City! The economy needs to get with the program. Now I KNOW why Plymouth shut down in the Late 80's-Early 90's.
