Okay so I recently just got into Pokemon Special/Adventure.

I have been looking for onlinescans (and I found some with slightly different translations). One reads from right to left (traditional) and the other one seems flipped and is read left to right (american). But in the traditional scan the rival of Red is named Green and in the american version the rival of Red is named Blue.

And when I wiki 'Pokemon Special' the guy rival of Red should be Blue. But then in fanpictures the rival is Green.

So I am confused. Which one is the name of Red's rival?

LOL! There's a lot of same type questions have been asking. Well, the guy, was supposed to name as Green. But because the game releasing has somehow changed in America. In America version, Red's rival is Blue. And the gal with flying Blastoise one, isn't Red's rival. So the translator decided to change the guy's name into Blue and the female's name as Green.

But in my scanslation, the female is Blue and the male is Green.

My guess is that the original translator went by the colour names available in the original games, since there was no Pokémon Green available in the west.

That added with the fact that Red's rival is canonically called Blue in western versions of GSC; it's a suitable localisation.

True, but is there any news yet on whether he'll be called Blue in the English HGSS? Sorry, I'm not up-to-date on that right now, so I dunno...

Never mind the fact that with FRLG being the canonical Kanto story now, he really should be called Green instead of Blue. It won't make sense to younger readers who aren't familiar with the originals, in my opinion.

Yeah that's a good point and I'd been confused about what they'll do aswell...

Needless to say if they change his name to Green in the west aswell, Viz' translators would be pretty pissed off as they just missed an opportunity to change his name with the 2nd edition mangas :S I would be kinda pissed off for that reason too, it would only make the manga even more confusing for western fans....

I don't think they'll make the change if the opportunity was missed with the re-releases. It'll stay as it is.

Because at first I was only able to read Coronis's summaries on Serebii, I always refer to Blue as the female and Green as the male. And for some reason, Blue seems more feminine.....

its already been confrimed that his name is green in HGSS. Im kinda glad its that. Green suits him better than blue
In the English versions? Since when was that confirmed? I haven't read anything of the sort.

He's always been called Green in the Japanese version of the game.

As far as I'm concerned, Blue is the girl and Green is the guy. Also, IMO Special =/= GSC, so "Blue" in those games is not the same person as "Green" in the manga.

This only causes confusion when I'm hunting for Blue (the girl) fan-art, because I have to keep in mind she's "Green" in some markets.

well in the jap. ones its been confirmed. In FR/LG they kinda hint out that his name is green. When you restart the game and you name your rival, some option names come up and Green was a choice. In the R/B/Y games the name option was Blue.

    In Japanese,his name's Green.In English,his name is Blue.I call him Green though.

I've always prefered the rival to be known as Green. For some reason the name Green is more suited for a male than a female to me and vice versa with the name Blue =P

His name might change back to Green because of FRLG being in America. Though it would make sense for him to stay as Blue since of the American "originals."
It would make sense for us. This is originally originated from Japan though, so it makes sense for them to name him Green as Green was the replacement of Blue back then.

Yes, i think that makes sense, too.

IMO, there's no confusion at all. If I'm speaking japanese, i'd call him グリーン Green, if english i'd say Blue. problem is when you're searching for pictures and stuff.. it's kinda annoying..

I call him Green, and her Blue.Although that's coz the first pokespec i read was on onemanga, who translated the japanese comics, and named them like that.
Also, Blue goes better with Silver if you ask me.
When it comes to FireRed/LeafGreen arc, he should definitely be called Green.

Well I actually bought the books, and yes in America he is called Blue, and Japan Green. This is also highlighted in the Japanese Games. Now I honestly think that Blue would make more sense. The reason being is that several people think that Red and Blue are opposites (Fire and Water, Girl and boy, Hot and Cold).

Also, did anybody else laugh out loud when they read what Red said to Misty(Kasumi) about it being a costume party? I don't know why, but the way the chibi was, just made me laugh!
