Aww, man! That be the only one I don't have! I am currently trying to get some guy to trade me his jolly ditto with 31 IV in def.

The numbers are the pokemon's IVs. More information here: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/IV
Furthermore, if you're looking for shinies, you're in the wrong place. I've got few (not trading) and I'm no good at chaining. D:

I'm not understanding these pokemon characteristics very much. I mean, I came in knowing just levels, attack, defense, speed, etc. How are these kinds of things determined. Might you have another link better helping me out with my confusion?

Credit to Stavross for the link.

Basically, IVs are individual values given to pokemon when you first catch or breed them. Each stat can have anywhere from 0 to 31 IVs and these are added to a pokemon's base stats. What I do is I bred pokemon with specific IVs with each other in order to obtain offspring with the desirable IVs where I want them.
